Dragon Ball Daima Will Show a Brand New Side of Universe 7

As a lifelong Dragon Ball fanatic who’s seen more episodes than I care to admit, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming anime, Dragon Ball Daima. The prospect of exploring the Demon Realm, a piece of Universe 7 that Toriyama only hinted at in his guidebook, is enough to send chills down my spine.

As a dedicated Dragon Ball fan, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming anime series titled “Dragon Ball Daima.” Set to launch in October, this wild new adventure for Son Goku is one of the last projects from the legendary creator Akira Toriyama. Though he’s gone, his spirit lives on in this project, and it feels as if we’re stepping right into his creative universe.

Indeed, the freshly released trailer for Dragon Ball Daima has sparked keen interest among fans, who are now scrutinizing Universe 7 more closely. For a long time, this franchise has primarily focused on Universe 7, as it serves as the residence of Goku and his companions. We’ve already witnessed its portrayal of the afterlife and even hell; however, there remains an unexplored aspect of Universe 7 – the Demon Realm. This new territory is indeed a part of Universe 7, ready to unveil itself in the upcoming storyline.

What Does Dragon Ball’s Universe 7 Look Like?

It might not be immediately apparent, but Universe 7 boasts a unique layout. The renowned artist Toriyama sketched this universe for a guidebook, and it appears to be modeled after a gacha ball. Inside the sphere, you’ll find Earth, the heavens, and even hell. Various planets like Beerus’ home are also part of Universe 7’s spherical shape. However, there is more to Universe 7 located at its southern end.

Dragon Ball Daima Will Show a Brand New Side of Universe 7

At the southernmost extremity, far beneath what seems like the edge of Universe 7, lies a distinct point often associated with the entrance to the Demon Realm. This theory is supported by the latest Dragon Ball Daima trailer which hints at this universe’s underbelly before plunging viewers into the enigmatic Demon Realm. The main question on fans’ minds now is how this mysterious realm fits within the established narrative of the anime series.

What Is the Demon Realm?

After all, the Demon Realm is nothing new to Dragon Ball. Even in the anime, the strange land has been alluded to several time. During the original Dragon Ball run, we met different Demon World kings like Shula. The leader was able to open a door from the Demon World to Earth, but Goku quickly shut it after rescuing the princess Misa. Again in Dragon Ball Z, Dabura made mention of the Demon World during a chat with Babidi. So clearly, the realm has been part of the mainline series for ages.

Contrary to what the anime might suggest, the Demon Realm is much more extensively developed within the Dragon Ball universe. In fact, our heroes, including Goku, have encountered and dealt with the Demon Realm on multiple occasions. According to lore, the Demon Realm was sealed away from Earth in 850 due to prophecies predicting chaos if it were opened. Characters such as Towa and Mira are introduced in the extended canon as soldiers intent on releasing the Demon Realm. As a result, Goku is tasked with preventing them. Therefore, it’s evident that some significant events have occurred in Dragon Ball Daima that have unsealed at least part of the Demon Realm.

How Will the Demon Realm Impact Dragon Ball Daima?

From what we’ve seen in the trailers, it appears that the Demon Realm has begun to intrude into our world, and its inhabitants have learned about the power of the Dragon Balls. Their wish on these orbs has shrunk Goku and his companions down to miniature size, a change that even the Kais cannot undo. To restore things back to normal, it seems that Goku will need to traverse Universe 7 in search of the Dragon Balls. If the Demon Realm is indeed responsible for this predicament, then one might question if the Dragon Balls themselves have been tainted by their influence.

In the realm of demons lies an incredibly corruptive power. This power might very well affect the Dragon Balls, as suggested by changes in their appearance in previous trailers for “Dragon Ball Daima.” Originally destined to appear as the Black Star Dragon Balls in “Dragon Ball GT,” the Blue Dragon Balls were tainted with demonic energy. With the Dragon Balls potentially being influenced and the Demon Realm opening up, Goku will have a challenging task ahead in “Dragon Ball Daima.” Furthermore, we’ll finally get to explore a part of Universe 7 that Toriyama has only hinted at until now.
