Astro Bot 2 Would Have to be “Something Fresh,” Director Says

As a longtime PlayStation enthusiast who’s been through the highs and lows of countless gaming generations, I find myself utterly enthralled by the success of Astro Bot. The game has captivated both critics and players alike, proving that sometimes, innovation can come from the most unexpected places.

Just recently debuted, “Astro Bot” is soaring high with widespread critical praise and indications of commercial triumph. Although it’s too soon to discuss a possible sequel, given its success as a platformer, one can’t help but ponder what Team Asobi has planned for the franchise’s future.

In a recent conversation on the Friends Per Second podcast hosted by YouTuber SkillUp, Nicolas Doucet, director of Astro and head of Team Asobi, emphasized that any future projects from the studio should offer something new and innovative, rather than simply providing more of the same.

Speaking about creating a compelling character, he noted it’s extremely challenging across any intellectual property (IP). The Astro IP, being adaptable, allows us to brainstorm new game concepts. It needs to be innovative rather than just an updated version of what we’ve done before, like Astro Bot 1.5. Only time will reveal our decisions.

Absolutely, right now, I’m excitedly looking forward to Team Asobi’s well-deserved vacation. Meanwhile, the studio is busy crafting exciting new free DLC levels for Astro Bot. Who knows, we might even catch a glimpse of characters from Assassin’s Creed, Stellar Blade, and Rayman in these updates!
