As a die-hard PlayStation fan with memories of countless hours spent navigating virtual worlds, I can confidently say that Astro Bot has taken the platforming genre to new heights. The upcoming DLC, focusing on speedrunning levels and introducing new VIP bots from beloved franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Stellar Blade, is an absolute dream come true.
Astro Bot has truly amazed players, earning it the title of the best-reviewed game this year. While the platformer already offers a wealth of content for gamers to enjoy, developer Team Asobi promises even more is on the way. In previous statements, director and studio head Nicolas Doucet confirmed that at least 15 additional “playful” speedrun levels would be added before the end of the year. In a recent interview with Quest Daily on YouTube, he provided further details.
According to Doucet, the upcoming free downloadable content is set to emphasize faster-paced, smaller stages inspired by speedrunning, a feature that garnered much praise in Astro’s Playroom. Moreover, he affirmed that these new levels would introduce fresh VIP bots to save, resulting in more guest characters from other PlayStation series making an appearance.
Doucet mentioned that the new version won’t be as massive as you might expect, but it will emphasize one of the popular aspects from Astro’s Playroom – speedruns. Previously, there were speedruns and the levels were brief, but what made it interesting was the ability to replay and continually reduce your time. Additionally, new VIP bots will be introduced for rescue missions, which means characters not initially included will make an appearance. In summary, expect a challenging experience with a focus on intricate level designs.
Doucet also confirmed that the speedrun levels will come with leaderboards.
In other news, if the closing scenes of Astro Bot are any indication, it seems possible that we might see guest appearances from series like Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, Stellar Blade, and others in the new VIP bots.
