As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with decades of immersion under my belt, I eagerly anticipate the upcoming Spawn movie, not just for the action-packed spectacle it promises, but also for the potential appearance of one of my favorite supporting characters – Sam & Twitch’s Twitch.
As a dedicated comic book fan and aspiring actor, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I get the chance to be part of the upcoming Spawn movie. Recently, I’ve been working on a project titled Knights vs. Samurai with Image Comics and Todd McFarlane Productions, but if given the opportunity, I’d love to bring to life a character that’s lean, tall, a bit geeky – just perfect for the Spawn universe as McFarlane has written it. The movie is slated for production by Blumhouse, with a targeted release in 2025, so here’s hoping I get the call!
As a devoted fan, I strongly believe that the character being referred to here is none other than Maximilian “Twitch” Williams, a key figure in the detective duo known as Sam & Twitch. This dynamic duo made their debut in issue #1 of Spawn and have since starred in numerous stories on their own. They bring a unique perspective to the Spawn Universe, offering an intriguing take on how law enforcement interacts with extraordinary entities such as superheroes and demons.
Dastmalchian shared with ComicBook that he’s often told Todd about a pair of characters from the Spawn Universe who are usually seen together. One of these characters is tall, lean, and a bit geeky. He’s always felt like he could fit in with them. “I don’t want to plant ideas in executives’ minds,” Dastmalchian added, “but I thought it might be worth mentioning.
McFarlane himself expressed his fondness for this kind of character, stating that he adores the image of a diminutive figure standing up to bigger ones without an ounce of fear.
Following their debut in the “Spawn” series, Sam and Twitch quickly gained favor among fans due to their numerous appearances in comic books of their own. At a certain juncture, Kevin Smith was working on a TV show centered around “Sam & Twitch,” but this project lost momentum as Todd McFarlane became more focused on resurrecting Spawn for the big screen.
Back in 1997, Warner Bros. distributed a film adaptation of Spawn under their subsidiary, New Line Cinema. Despite grossing $88 million at the box office, which was almost double its production cost, the movie didn’t receive favorable reviews from either critics or viewers. Todd McFarlane began discussing another film in detail around 2016, mentioning that an Academy Award-winning actor (eventually identified as Jamie Foxx) had expressed interest, and he remains associated with the project to this day. The upcoming movie is intended to be a hard-R horror production, deviating from the superhero genre that the original film explored.
Spawn is currently without a release date.
