X Factor star Ben Thapa dies, aged 42 – G4 bandmates pay tribute

As a movie buff who has seen countless tales of triumph and tragedy unfold on the silver screen, I must say that the news of Ben Thapa‘s untimely passing at 42 has left me with a heavy heart. The opera quartet G4 was a beacon of talent and camaraderie, rising to fame in the reality TV arena and capturing the hearts of many.

Former G4 member Ben Thapa has died at the age of 42, the band has confirmed on Instagram.

The opera quartet’s statement was posted on Monday 9th September, as they paid tribute to Thapa.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m deeply sorrowful to share this heart-wrenching news: Our beloved comrade and kin, Ben Thapa, has left us unexpectedly. There’s simply no words that truly capture the emotions we’re experiencing at this moment.

We acknowledge that this news may bring sadness to countless others, and we extend our sympathy and support to you all as we reflect on the exceptional individual he was and the lasting memories he created.

Ben has played a significant role within the global music scene, and his contributions were essential to our growth as a collective.

In the year 2004, G4 gained popularity after Thapa and his bandmates, Jonathan Ansell, Mike Christie, and Matthew Stiff participated in The X Factor as a group under Louis Walsh’s mentorship.

They were beaten to the top spot by Steve Brookstein, but still managed to secure a £1.5 million album deal with Sony, and released three albums under the label.

Additionally, they put out a Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD, an autobiographical book titled “G4: Our Journey,” and undertook successful tours throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

In 2018, Thapa chose to depart from the band and concentrate on his individual opera endeavors. Lewis Raines took over at that time, but later on, he was succeeded by Jai McDowall, who had previously won Britain’s Got Talent.

As a devoted movie buff reminiscing about the changes within my favorite bands, I can’t help but notice that Stiff’s departure wasn’t an isolated event. In fact, back in 2007, he stepped down and was succeeded by Nick Ashby. However, even Nick didn’t stick around for too long; he bid farewell to the band in 2019. Stepping into the gap left by these two was none other than Duncan Sandilands.

Right now, the band is performing on a tour that will continue through October. In November of 2024, they plan to kick off their annual Christmas tour.

More recently, original band member Ansell took to Instagram, reminiscing about the group’s X Factor origins and penning: “A day that altered my life forever… Sometimes I still shed tears over it.

Thapa’s exact reason for passing away remains undisclosed at this time, however, he recently posted a picture on his personal Instagram revealing that he underwent a nephrostomy procedure and another showing a dialysis machine.

Since then, fans have been flooding his account with heartfelt tributes and messages expressing their condolences to Thapa’s loved ones.
