I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot May Have Found Replacement for Riverdale Star

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours playing survival horror games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil, I must say that I am genuinely excited about the latest casting update for the upcoming ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer‘. The addition of Chase Sui Wonders to the cast is a promising move, given her impressive performance in the murder mystery ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ and her role in the TV series ‘City on Fire’.

Recently, there was an unfortunate announcement that Riverdale’s Camila Mendes would not be able to continue with the new I Know What You Did Last Summer due to her obligations for the live-action Masters of the Universe. This left fans wondering about the fate of the slasher revival. However, they didn’t have to wait long for good news as Deadline reported that Bodies Bodies Bodies star Chase Sui Wonders was in discussions to fill Mendes’ vacated role, potentially putting the project back on schedule. The new I Know What You Did Last Summer is set to be released on July 18, 2025.

Apart from playing a role in the A24 murder mystery “Bodies Bodies Bodies”, Wonders is also recognized for movies like “On the Rocks” and TV series such as “City on Fire” and “Bupkis”. The cast of the latest “I Know What You Did Last Summer” includes Madelyn Cline from “Outer Banks”, Tyriq Withers from “Atlanta”, Jonah Hauer-King known for “The Little Mermaid”, and Sarah Pidgeon, who has been nominated for a Tony Award.

As a gamer, I can tell you that the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise originated from Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel of the same name. The first adaptation hit screens in 1997, followed by its sequel, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,” in 1998. However, the 2006 film, “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer,” didn’t have much of a connection to the earlier films. Fast forward to 2021, Amazon Prime Video tried to breathe new life into this concept with a TV series, but it lasted only for one season.

The plot revolves around a band of companions who unintentionally strike a person with their vehicle and subsequently try to hide the corpse from law enforcement. However, a year later, they are pursued and terrorized by someone who hints at knowing their hidden crime. This has sparked multiple narratives in the past, leading fans to ponder if this new edition will link back to its predecessors. Unlike recent horror movie resurrections that follow as direct sequels of original films, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson earlier confirmed that her version won’t disregard the 1998 sequel.

As a dedicated fan, I’m excited to clarify that Kaytin Robinson has confirmed that the upcoming movie isn’t ignoring the previous “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” sequels. She said, “Absolutely not! The upcoming film is indeed canon, so let’s all be ready for the continuation of the story.

Keep an eye out for the latest news about the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie, set to premiere in theaters on July 18, 2025.
