Deadpool & Wolverine Director Confirms Easter Egg Fans Have Been Missing

As a lifelong Marvel fan, I must say that the Easter eggs hidden in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine movie have truly blown my mind! The reference to Hugh Jackman’s role as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables is just one of many delightful surprises that make this film a must-watch for any Marvel enthusiast.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s been no lack of details to explore. The film delighted fans with subtle nods to the wider Marvel multiverse and more. A sharp-eyed Marvel fan has noticed a quick tribute to Hugh Jackman’s past roles, as Logan’s skull in the opening scene is engraved with the serial number “24601.” This is the same number assigned to Jean Valjean, the main character portrayed by Jackman in the 2012 film adaptation of the famous musical Les Miserables.

On a Monday update, director Shawn Levy of Deadpool and Wolverine acknowledged that the Les Miserables reference is deliberate. He joked on Twitter about who might have spotted it first, hinting at its subtlety. This marks the second instance where the Deadpool series has alluded to ‘24601’, as it was also seen in a map sketched by Wade Wilson/Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) in Deadpool 2.

We’ve been wondering, who would notice that first!?

Will Hugh Jackman Play Wolverine Again?

Currently, neither Jackman nor Reynolds have been officially announced to reprise their roles in any upcoming Marvel productions, including the upcoming multiverse movies, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Jackman himself shared during the press tour for “Deadpool & Wolverine” that he now holds a unique position regarding these roles.

In a recent interview on The Official Marvel Podcast, Jackman admitted he didn’t initially grasp the broader significance of his role as Wolverine. Raised without a deep interest in comics, he had never encountered X-Men prior to accepting the part. In some ways, this ignorance proved beneficial since it allowed him to approach Logan as any other character. The claws, healing ability, and wild hair were just elements that added to his human portrayal. As an actor, Jackman emphasized working on the voice and physicality of each character he played. On-screen, eyes play a crucial role, but all parts of an actor are involved. When he observed the striking visuals, he was struck by the economy of the images – entire action sequences could be sold with just 12 pictures. He realized that Wolverine represented marginalized communities, minorities, and even the animalistic side of him. As a result, Jackman incorporated these aspects into his performance during rehearsals.
