Game Boy Color-Inspired Analogue Pocket Designs Revealed

As a seasoned gamer who has been around since the Game Boy Color era, I must say, the Analogue Pocket‘s GBC Colors edition is a nostalgic dream come true! I remember vividly the thrill of owning a Game Boy Color back in ’98, and these new designs bring back those fond memories.

After its debut in 2021, the Analogue Pocket has undergone multiple redesigns, such as translucent and glow-in-the-dark versions. This week, the handheld gaming system is set to release several new designs inspired by the Game Boy Color era. The GBC Colors edition, available this week, offers colors that mimic those initially offered by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color in 1998: Berry, Kiwi, Grape, Teal, and Dandelion. Furthermore, a Gold version will also be available. All six designs are priced at $249.99 each. It’s worth noting that these options will be sold in limited quantities!

If you’ve attempted to acquire a special edition of the Analogue Pocket, you’re aware that these models are hard to find. With all six versions launching simultaneously, it might become slightly more manageable, but those eager to get one should have their payment details swiftly prepared as the systems will go live soon. The six Game Boy Color editions will be available for purchase on Friday, September 13th, starting at 8 a.m. Pacific Time.

On the same day the latest GBC design models are unveiled, supplies of standard Analogue Pocket units will also be replenished. This is great news for those who weren’t able to get their hands on one of the new GBC designs and have been eagerly waiting for an Analogue Pocket regardless! Additionally, a new OS update for the Analogue Pocket is scheduled, though no details about its content or potential fixes have been disclosed yet.

For those new to Analogue Pocket, it’s a versatile retro handheld device that supports playing games from Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance directly. However, Analogue offers adapters for expanded compatibility, allowing you to play games from systems like Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and more. It comes with contemporary features not found in the original Game Boy series, such as the ability to capture screenshots and save game states. The latter feature is particularly useful since it helps bypass problems caused by battery decay inside old cartridges.
