As a fan who has been captivated by Wednesday since its debut, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as we approach season 2. Jenna Ortega has breathed new life into the character, making her own contributions to the script and choreography without even informing the writers! Her dedication and passion for Wednesday are truly inspiring.
Fans eagerly anticipate a second season of “Wednesday” starring Jenna Ortega, as they flock back to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice universe.
Fortunately, at present, the Netflix series is being filmed in Ireland. Furthermore, we’ve been provided with various updates by the streaming service and Ortega herself to keep our excitement level high until the next episode comes out!
I’m excited to share that I’ve joined the ranks of some talented actors, including Billie Piper and Joanna Lumley, in our upcoming season. Additionally, we have reassurances from Ortega that this season will delve deeper into its horror elements, which I can’t wait to see unfold!
Lately, Ortega has shared with Harper’s Bazaar that she’s finding it challenging to play the cello once more. In an interview, she mentioned: “During the shoot for season 2, about two weeks ago I even yanked quite a bit of my hair out over a cello piece.
“We handled that situation quickly, and now we’re onto the next task. As for me, I’m actively participating, but I’ve never claimed to be a prodigy.
As the filming progresses, here’s what we currently understand about Wednesday season 2 following that suspenseful finale.
Wednesday season 2 release date speculation
At the moment, we’re anticipating that something will happen on a Wednesday, somewhere around the start of the year in 2025. As of now, there isn’t a specific release date confirmed, but rest assured, we’ll keep this page informed with any fresh updates as soon as they become available.
The manufacturing process started in May 2024, as confirmed by Netflix with their announcement. A tweet from them said, “Back at it again,” while the promotional video hinted at more “torment” from the gothic series. We wouldn’t want it any other way!
Here we woe again.

Back in January 2023, it got official that “Wednesday” would return for another season. This renewal happened quite swiftly, as the show turned out to be a massive success on Netflix. The first season had been launched back in November 2022.
Plus, while nothing is confirmed, we could be in for even more seasons beyond season 2.
In an interview with Variety, Miles Millar, the show’s lead creator, expressed their desire for the series to carry on past merely season 2.
In simpler terms, he mentioned that their approach is to focus on the future when developing a TV show, preferably considering multiple seasons. This isn’t necessarily what’s expected, but it’s their hope that the show will be successful.
Indeed, it’s a common practice of yours to plan multiple story arcs that could unfold over several seasons for your characters. These plots have the flexibility to adapt and transform as needed.
Frequently, it’s important to know which characters or actors are engaging and enjoyable to work with, so we aim to maintain a flexible and natural dynamic, allowing for changes and growth. However, we also have a definite plan for the direction we wish to take in upcoming seasons.
Wednesday season 2 cast: Who will star?
The following cast members are confirmed to star in Wednesday season 2:

- Owen Painter as TBC
- Noah Taylor as TBC
- Christopher Lloyd as TBC
- Frances O’Connor as TBC
- Haley Joel Osment as TBC
- Heather Matarazzo as TBC
- Joonas Suotamowill as TBC
Of course, it wouldn’t be Wednesday without our star, Jenna Ortega, as Wednesday Addams, and it’s clear we’ll see plenty of our returning characters develop throughout season 2, including Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair and Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay.
Noteworthy stars like Billie Piper (as Capri), Steve Buscemi (Barry Dort), and Joanna Lumley (Grandmama) will be joining our cast. Additionally, Thandiwe Newton and Christopher Lloyd from The Addams Family are also set to join our ensemble.
Currently, there are some doubts regarding the cast for the upcoming season. Specifically, Hunter Doohan (Tyler) and Naomi J Ogawa (Yoko Tanaka), who were part of the previous cast, have not been officially confirmed by Netflix to reprise their roles. Additionally, it remains undecided if Gwendoline Christie will make a comeback as Principal Larissa Weems.
An unexpected absence among the cast is Percy Hynes, previously known for portraying Xavier Thorpe. He announced his departure from the series earlier. At that point, he expressed: “I had an amazing time working on this show. I eagerly await season 2 🙂 Lots of love.
After his departure, Ortega referred to it as an “odd deviation.” He also mentioned that with the introduction of numerous new characters, there might be a risk of confusion.
What could be the plot for Wednesday season 2?
As of now, there isn’t a detailed summary available for Wednesday season 2, but Netflix has confirmed that the series will carry on with Wednesday’s exciting journey at Nevermore Academy.
Earlier on, it was pointed out by Ortega that the upcoming season of the show would have a stronger focus on horror elements, which fans can look forward to. At the Emmys, she expressed: “I’ve gotten some scripts for the second season now, and we’re definitely moving in a direction with a bit more terror.
Moving forward, the series seems to favor horror elements over romance, as it’s been confirmed that Wednesday, in the second season, will not feature a romantic interest for her character.
In an interview with Variety’s Actors on Actors, she mentioned that they are choosing not to include a romantic love interest for the character on Wednesday, which she finds quite exciting.
Oh – and there’ll be more than one new cello scene, as detailed above. We can’t wait!
Showrunner Miles Millar is eager to incorporate even more of the Addams Family in the upcoming season.
In conversation with TV Line, he expressed that they barely scratched the surface with those characters, and the actors are simply outstanding in their respective roles.
Catherine seems to me like a quintessential Morticia. Moreover, the bond between Wednesday and Morticia plays a crucial role in the series, and it’s intriguing to see Wednesday attempting to carve out her individual identity beyond the family.
He mentioned, “If we’re fortunate enough to have a second season, we aim to include the family in multiple episodes, much like we did this season.
In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Millar shared that they aim to preserve the “motivational” essence of Wednesday, given her role as the teenage main character.
He mentioned: “We’re both fathers of four daughters collectively. Consequently, we’ve definitely gathered experiences for this one, and I believe we’re undeniably motivated to create or discover a teenage girl character like this, who is exceptionally self-assured, well-read, intelligent, quirky, and unabashed about her individuality.
Frequently, adolescent girls may transform from looking unattractive to beautiful, much like the ugly duckling that becomes a swan. However, Wednesday in this story is already fully developed. I find it incredibly inspiring to see such a character, as it’s seldom to encounter a teen female protagonist who is portrayed in this manner.
Furthermore, Gough and Millar hinted at potentially delving deeper into the topic of female relationships for a potential second season.
As a passionate movie enthusiast speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, I’m thrilled to share that we aim to delve deeper into and intricately weave all the relationships ahead in our upcoming season. Leaving the school open when they departed would have limited our creative freedom, but closing it instead provides us with a wealth of possibilities for season two. This is something that we’re incredibly excited to unravel and reveal!
Now that Wednesday has tested the waters of our friendship, I’m eager to see how it will unfold.
One thing’s for sure – Ortega will back the character in a big way as she always has done.
The actress has been a strong advocate for the character of Wednesday since day one, even altering lines in certain scenes to fit the character more accurately without first consulting the writers, and also creating her unique dance moves (drawing inspiration from Lisa Loring’s portrayal of Wednesday in 1994) independently.
On Tudum, Ortega commented: “On Wednesdays, she remains firm and isn’t seeking approval from anyone. As a former people-pleaser myself, I admire this quality in her.
How many episodes will be in Wednesday season 2?
We’re expecting to see eight episodes in Wednesday season 2 – the same as season 1.
In the world of my favorite shows, we’re diving back into it with the title “Here We Woe Again” for the premiere! This time around, the brilliant minds of Tim Burton, Paco Cabezas, and Angela Robinson are at the helm, guiding us through another captivating season.
Is Wednesday leaving Netflix?
Contrary to some initial concerns among viewers, Netflix officially verified in early 2023 that the series “Wednesday” would continue with a second season on their platform. In a promotional video, they referred to the show as a “worldwide sensation.
Miles Millar and Alfred Gough shared their excitement with Netflix’s Tudum about immersing themselves fully into another season and delving deeper into the quirky, eerie realm of Nevermore.
“We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”
They added: “We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into season 2.”
Ortega expressed gratitude towards his supporters prior to the release of Season 2, posting on Twitter: “I appreciate every one of you who made the next season a reality. It’s all been quite unbelievable.
Earlier, people were discussing the possibility that the popular show might be taken over by Prime Video, considering Amazon’s recent purchase of MGM, the company owning the Addams Family, for approximately $8.4 billion.
Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the acquisition of MGM by Amazon does not guarantee that all content produced by them will immediately be exclusive to Prime Video.
IndieWire aimed to disprove the rumors by stating that a contract between Netflix and MGM was finalized well before Amazon acquired MGM.
Is there a Wednesday season 2 trailer?
No. There’s no trailer just yet, but we’ll update this page when one is released!
While waiting, Netflix unveiled a video as they confirmed the renewal of the series for its second season.
