PS5 Pro Confirms First Wave of Games Getting Upgraded

As a longtime PlayStation enthusiast who’s been through the thick and thin of console generations, I must say that Sony has outdone themselves with the announcement of the PS5 Pro! The lineup of games that will take advantage of this powerful hardware is simply jaw-dropping, and it’s clear that Sony isn’t messing around when it comes to pushing the boundaries of gaming.

Sony unveiled the preliminary list of video games that will run smoothly on the PlayStation 5 Pro at its launch in November. As anticipated, this morning saw the first glimpse of the PS5 Pro, along with its release date and an impressive price tag of $700. While many PlayStation enthusiasts are focusing on the console’s cost, Sony has also clarified which games will leverage the platform’s capabilities.

On the PlayStation Blog, Sony has unveiled a list of thirteen games that will have PS5 Pro enhancements from day one. Many of these games hail from PlayStation’s own first-party studios, with titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Demon’s Souls, Gran Turismo 7, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart being a few examples. Besides this collection, publishers and developers like Capcom, Remedy, Ubisoft, and WB Games also intend to leverage the hardware as soon as it’s released.

Here’s the full list of games getting upgraded for PS5 Pro that we know of so far:

  • Alan Wake 2
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • The Crew Motorfest
  • The First Descendant
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered

Alongside enhancing games for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), Sony has indicated that a significant number of previous PlayStation 4 (PS4) games can also benefit from improvements with the PS5 Pro. Sony estimates that over 8,000 PS4 games will continue to work on the PS5 Pro and receive performance upgrades. Additionally, visual enhancements for PS4 games are possible, although Sony notes that these improvements will only apply to a select group of titles.

Sony clarified that one of the additional features is called ‘PS5 Pro Game Boost,’ which can be utilized in over 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This functionality may help maintain or enhance the performance of compatible PS4 and PS5 games. Another feature, ‘Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games,’ is also offered to boost the resolution on certain PS4 games.

One potential issue with the anticipated PS5 Pro model is that it may not include a disc drive. This means that individuals who prefer physical copies of their PS4 games might need to purchase a separate disc drive, which costs around $80. In essence, the PS5 Pro seems to be marketed as an elite product for dedicated PlayStation enthusiasts, and it’s unlikely to appeal to everyone as a purchase option.

The new PS5 Pro model is scheduled to hit the market on November 7, 2024. It’s worth noting that pre-ordering for this console will start from September 26th of this year.
