Spider-Man 4: One Big Surprise MCU Cameo Could Be Coming

Spider-Man 4: One Big Surprise MCU Cameo Could Be Coming

As a longtime Marvel fan and avid follower of the ever-evolving MCU, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for what’s to come with Spider-Man 4. The dynamic between Peter Parker and MJ is one of the most endearing aspects of this latest iteration of the web-slinger, so it would be heart-wrenching to see them part ways in the next installment.

In the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, “Spider-Man 4,” there could be an unexpected cameo that will take viewers by surprise. This week, Destin Daniel Cretton was announced as the director for the next Spider-Man movie. While discussions have centered around Shang-Chi potentially joining forces with Spider-Man, there’s another frequent collaborator of Cretton’s you might want to watch out for. Fans who remember Brie Larson’s cameo in the post-credits scene of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” may see her reappear in a role that assists Spider-Man due to her recurring presence in most of the director’s projects.

Before the release of the movie in 2019, MTV News questioned Cretton about having Larson join Shang-Chi. As anticipated, he hinted at ways to make it happen. The director stated, “Well, I think there’s always a spot for Brie. But, I’m not sure.” (Cretton knew that Captain Marvel and Bruce Banner would both appear as major post-credits surprises.) At this point, the only confirmed details about Spider-Man 4 are that Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker and Cretton will assist in its production. However, there’s a lot of potential for various directions moving forward.

As I sit here, pondering about the potential shape of Spider-Man 4, my heart races with anticipation. There’s been a flood of discussions revolving around a street-level narrative, where Daredevil and Kingpin could play significant roles. The idea of a citywide crime war in New York, possibly involving superpowered individuals, is so intense that it makes Captain Marvel think twice about her new home base in Louisiana.

What Would Be Big Enough To Have All These Characters Show Up?

Despite some Marvel fans hoping otherwise, we find ourselves in what is known as The Multiverse Saga. While it’s understandable that many viewers are eager for a local Spider-Man story based on the hints dropped at the end of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” it seems there may be more significant events unfolding. Since Phase 4 began, we’ve experienced around 8,000 incursions, suggesting that these stories might not be so easily contained when they conclude. This is supported by Peter Parker’s last adventure in the MCU, where he inadvertently created a massive tear in reality, underscoring the potential complexity of future events.

Could it be that since Tom Holland’s Spider-Man (Webslinger) might not receive assistance from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions this time around, Earth’s established Avengers could potentially lend a hand instead? Shang-Chi and Captain Marvel are two heroes who aren’t currently occupied with space missions, metal mining, or defending the Dark Dimension. In an emergency, even Daredevil might offer assistance. (The moment when Danvers forgets Spider-Man’s name in Avengers: Endgame will surely tug at heartstrings in cinemas.) However, given that the path to Avengers: Secret Wars is still underway, it does seem logical for the Web-Slinger to have some unresolved Multiverse matters.

In the usual course of cinematic Spider-Man’s storyline, troubles persist across multiple films. Much like his friendship with Tony Stark, it’s a tradition that’s continued. Despite plans wrapping up for a new beginning after Spider-Man: No Way Home, recent rumors hint at an entirely different turn of events. Fans are fond of the pairing between Zendaya and Holland, making it unlikely that a Spider-Man 4 would separate them. Given the events of the last movie, sacrificing her memories, it seems possible that this relationship could bring about further personal turmoil for our web-slinging hero in the upcoming installment.

Spider-Man 4 Could Be The Marvel Reunion Tour To Set Up Avengers: Doomsday

An easy enough hook for the movie could be Spider-Man falling into dark habits and being depressed. He has to realize that he needs help when insurmountable odds arrive. Captain Marvel literally just learned about teamwork and communication in The Marvels. Shang-Chi’s solo adventure was about embracing all the parts of yourself to achieve your true potential. Getting the cameos along with those themes is just the cherry on top.

Previously on ComicBook’s “Phase Zero” podcast, a filmmaker was questioned about the possibility of his friend appearing in the post-credits scene. It was quite bizarre, but Cretton found it delightful to work with Larson again. If given another opportunity for a significant Marvel Cinematic Universe reunion, it might be an offer too tempting to refuse.

Director Cretton shared with us that it was incredibly exciting when she unexpectedly arrived. He greeted her in her trailer, and they reminisced as it had been a while since they last met. Then he went to set, preparing for her grand entrance. As Captain Marvel stepped onto the set for the first time, wearing the costume up close, Cretton felt a sense of disbelief – it was almost unreal. He and Simu Liu, too, often found themselves looking at each other in bewilderment, wondering, ‘Can you believe we’re actually here?’

He commented, “That’s the vibe we shared on stage. When we stood before 8,000 spectators, it felt like… The moment we left, we couldn’t help but laugh, and that was the essence of Brie and me during filming, almost as if to say, ‘Why am I in this director’s chair, and why are you in that costume?’ However, it was a pleasure to witness her performance.
