After a grueling battle, “Dandadan” took a month-long hiatus while creator Yukinobu Tatsu prepared for the next phase of the series. Upon its resumption this month, the story has subtly hinted at what’s to come by depicting the recovery process for Momo Ayase, Okarun, and their companions. However, this recuperation period seems to pave the way for significant changes in the forthcoming events of the series.
In the recent installments of “Dandadan”, Momo and their companions are seen indulging in a grand feast following a significant battle, which is typical of the series. However, instead of providing answers, this celebration leaves readers wondering about what’s coming next because some significant shifts have occurred. For instance, Okarun has obtained the second of his lost golden artifacts in his battle against the Fairy-Tale Card yokai, which also signifies the termination of his agreement with Turbo Granny.
Okarun Gets His Balls Back
In the Fairy-Tale Card’s realm, one of Okarun’s precious family heirlooms was seized. However, following the monster’s vanquish, he managed to retrieve it. This marks the beginning of Chapter 165 in Dandadan. Unlike a typical restoration process, though, Turbo Granny and Seiko opt for another round of their peculiar pitching and batting competition. Despite all the mischief, Okarun ultimately reclaims his family heirloom and returns to something close to normalcy post-ordeal.
This implies that since Okarun has now regained his complete physical form, his arrangement with Turbo Granny is no longer valid. Originally, Turbo Granny granted Okarun her spiritual strength to aid him in locating his lost family heirlooms. As a result, Okarun could assume her form and absorb her power, which became a memorable aspect of the series. However, once Okarun retrieves his jewels, Turbo Granny promptly requests that he return her spiritual power to her.
Why Turbo Granny Leaves
In contrast to others who warn that Okarun might not be able to transform again if more enemies attack, Okarun consents to return Turbo Granny’s power willingly. He acknowledges this is in accordance with their original agreement and feels no hesitation about fulfilling it. After expressing gratitude for the loan, Seiko assists in returning Turbo Granny’s spiritual energy to her. The transfer of power demonstrates that she remains as formidable as when first encountered.
After regaining her power from Okarun, Turbo Granny decides to depart, stating that she no longer feels the need to stay with the rest of the group. Although they had shared many memories together prior, she swiftly leaves, given that she was their first significant adversary in the series. This is why Okarun finds himself in this predicament. Yet, there’s an undercurrent of bittersweet feelings as Turbo Granny’s power had saved them from numerous difficult situations, and she seemed to hold a fondness for them too. However, it appears that this is the end, and Okarun will no longer be able to transform.
