Strictly’s Janette Manrara responds to show criticism from former partner

As a lifelong fan of Strictly Come Dancing who has followed the show since its inception, I have always admired the passion and dedication of the professional dancers and their celebrity partners. However, reading about the partnership between Janette Manrara and Paralympian Will Bayley during the 2019 season was a tough pill to swallow.

During an interview, former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer and co-host of It Takes Two, Janette Manrara, shared insights about her dance partnership with Paralympic athlete Will Bayley during the 2019 season.

In an interview with The Sun last July, Bayley expressed his confusion about not being rushed to the hospital right away following his knee injury during rehearsals for the show. He further added that he felt undervalued, stating he was made to feel more like a fortunate participant in the show rather than a significant celebrity.

He added that he will “never get over that injury”.

Regarding his collaboration with Manrara particularly, he stated: “In the end, I believe she was heavily pressured by the higher-ups to present herself in a specific manner, and it was this pressure from them that likely led to the incident.

She was an enthusiastic educator and played a role in making the leap. While I believe she could have offered more protection, I don’t hold it against her.

Currently, Manrara is discussing Bayley’s remarks and their working relationship during an interview with Closer magazine.

She mentioned: “It’s disheartening for anyone to get injured during a competition, more so when our performance was exceptional. Naturally, he experienced disappointment, and the aftermath of what transpired on Strictly was significant.

She insisted that they “are still great friends”, adding: “When all that came out we spoke directly to each other. We know in our hearts that we were an amazing team and had an incredible time together.”

Following the initial release of Bayley’s remarks, a representative from BBC stated in a response: “We have established procedures for handling injuries that might arise, ensuring that participants receive any required medical attention and support.

As a passionate moviegoer sharing my thoughts, let me tell you that during the dance competition, partnering with Will was an absolute joy for Janette. One of her most cherished scenes was their contemporary couples’ challenge – it truly stood out as a highlight for me!

During her tenure on Strictly, ensuring her famous dance partners’ wellbeing and pleasure was of utmost importance to Janette. She’s never faced any criticism in this regard and continues to cherish friendly relationships with all her dance partners, such as Will.

Manrara is set to come back as co-host for It Takes Two, joining Fleur East on the show when it makes its comeback this year.

The kick-off event for Strictly Come Dancing 2024 is scheduled to broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday, September 14th, starting at 7:20 PM.
