As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia and anticipation at the prospect of a new Marvel vs. Capcom game. Having grown up playing the original titles, these games hold a special place in my heart, and the thought of a fresh installment is almost too good to be true.
Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto has disclosed that the company yearns to create a fresh game within the Marvel vs. Capcom series, following the launch of “Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite” in 2017. The long-dormant fighting game franchise from Capcom will be revived later this week with the release of “Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics”. However, the likelihood of a completely new edition is yet to be confirmed. For fans eagerly awaiting something fresh, Matsumoto has shed light on how they can make their wish come true.
In a chat with ComicBook, we enquired about the possibility of a fresh installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Matsumoto mentioned that it’s a project many at Capcom are eager to bring to life, and the strong sales of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection could influence whether the series continues. Ultimately, however, Matsumoto emphasized that the passionate voices of Marvel vs. Capcom fans could significantly impact the decision as to whether a new game is given the go-ahead, since the final call doesn’t rest solely with Capcom.
Matsumoto expressed his team’s eagerness to launch a fresh chapter in the series, stating, “We’re really keen on unveiling another installment.” He also mentioned that while commercial success might play a role, it’s temporary. Instead, he emphasized the importance of our dedicated fans who keep us going and make the continuation of the series possible. He noted that this project is something we can’t accomplish single-handedly at Capcom.
In another part of the interview, Matsumoto expressed that both Marvel and Capcom were equally “thrilled” to team up again on the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection. Whether this implies a potential new MvC game remains unclear, but it’s certainly a positive sign for the future, offering fans a sliver of optimism – something they haven’t had in quite some time.
Although a fresh installment of Marvel vs Capcom may not be imminent, you can still enjoy the classic series as the older titles are now easily accessible on current platforms. The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection will be available digitally starting September 12th, with versions for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. An Xbox version is also being developed and set to release in 2025.
