One of the PS2's Rarest Games Plummets in Price After New Discovery

As a seasoned collector with decades of gaming history under my belt, I can confidently say that this latest development with Rule of Rose is nothing short of a game-changer. The fact that this elusive gem has seen its price drop by half is simply astonishing! It’s like discovering a long-lost treasure, only to find out there are several more hidden in the same cave.

Among the scarcest games in the PlayStation 2 collection, an unexpected factor has led to a drop in its resale price for the game “Rule of Rose.” Typically, many of the most costly titles in the PS2 inventory belong to the survival-horror genre. Games such as “Haunting Ground,” “Silent Hill: Shattered Memories,” “Obscure,” and the exorbitantly priced “Kuon” are commonly traded for hundreds of dollars (or even more) based on their condition. However, good news for those seeking the elusive “Rule of Rose” – a particular version of this game has recently become more affordable.

As a gamer, I stumbled upon some exciting news about the game “Rule of Rose.” The price drop is significant, going from around $1,400 for a new copy in 2023 to consistently selling for $600-$800 until just last month. Now, it’s being sold for barely over $300! Even though it’s still quite high, this price is a walk in the park compared to what it used to be. Kudos to @hopearcana for the heads-up!

The cost for one of the PS2’s scarcest games has been slashed in half due to two Italian eBay vendors discovering and listing several hundred unopened versions.

It’s interesting to note that recently, almost every second-hand copy of the game “Rule of Rose” being sold is coming from Italy. This is significant because 505 Games, the publisher responsible for releasing the game in Europe when it debuted in 2006, is based in Italy. It’s possible that they had some unsold copies of the game which were recently discovered this year.

Unfortunately, an increase in PAL (PlayStation 2) versions of the game “Rule of Rose” hasn’t resulted in a decrease in the price of the North American edition. At present, the North American version (published by Atlus), is still selling for approximately $700 in its complete boxed form. Brand new copies are consistently going for between $900 and $1000. This means that if you’re aiming to collect only retro PS2 games from North America, you’ll need to save quite a bit of money to acquire “Rule of Rose”.
