As a seasoned observer of the entertainment industry, I must say that the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) always promise a lively spectacle, and this year is no exception. The array of stars gracing the red carpet this year is truly impressive.
Chappell Roan was hot to go on the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards—but not in the way you’d think.
On the red carpet prior to her performance at New York’s UBS Arena on September 11, the artist known for “Good Luck, Babe!” got into a passionate disagreement. (Here are the arrivals of all the celebrities.)
In a whirlwind of excitement, I was glued to my screen, engrossed in the viral video clips flooding social media. There, amidst the flashes and chatter of photographers, stood Chappell. With her back turned, she was gracefully fiddling with her Y/Project gown. Suddenly, a voice from the crowd pierced the air: “Quiet down!” It’s moments like these that make me feel so connected to the fashion world.
The 26-year-old quickly spun around and screamed back, “You shut the f–k up!”
Following some enthusiastic encouragement from the crowd, Chappell continued by silencing the disruptor. Pointing a finger, she firmly stated, “Nope. Not this time, ma’am.
Without a doubt, Chappell, who was nominated for four MTV VMA awards, such as Best New Artist and Best Trending Video for “Hot To Go!”, isn’t shy about standing up for herself. Recently, she spoke out against fans who overstepped their bounds, labeling them as entitled.
She expressed on her August 19 TikTok that even though certain unconventional behaviors might be associated with the profession she’s in, this doesn’t make it acceptable, standard, desirable, or enjoyable for her.
The artist from “Punk Pony Club” went on to remark, “It’s odd when people assume they know someone based solely on seeing them online and listening to their work. That’s downright peculiar. I have the right to reject unwelcome advances.
According to a report by TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi during an exclusive interview at the VMAs, Chappell boldly declared, “Outsiders should receive recognition too. They should get their trophies as well.
