As I reflect upon the life of the remarkable Kenneth Cope, my heart is filled with a profound sense of admiration and gratitude for the indelible mark he left on British television and film. For six decades, this Liverpudlian titan graced our screens with his extraordinary talent, bringing laughter, tears, and suspense to countless viewers.
I’m deeply saddened to share that I’ve learned of the passing of Kenneth Cope, best recognized for his exceptional portrayal of Jed Stone on Coronation Street. His family has made this difficult announcement. May he rest in peace and be fondly remembered for his remarkable work.
Apart from being renowned for his role as Marty Hopkirk in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), this actor also made a name for himself by appearing on shows such as Brookside, Casualty, The Bill, and Kavanagh QC.
I’m deeply saddened to share this news, but here goes: On the 11th of September, 2024, I bid farewell to my dear friend and family member, Kenneth Cope, who was born on the 14th of April, 1931.
Yesterday, I bid a fond farewell to a legendary figure of British cinema, Ken. He peacefully departed from this world surrounded by his beloved wife and family. A towering icon in our television and film industry, he was most famously recognized for his captivating portrayals – as Marty Hopkirk in Randall and Hopkirk, Jed Stone on Coronation Street, and as an indispensable part of the Carry On team. The memories of his performances will continue to entertain and inspire us for generations to come.
Over a span of six decades, Ken has been instrumental in shaping some of the most memorable aspects of British culture. Born and raised in Liverpool, he is an ardent fan of Everton Football Club.
“He began his career in theatre quickly picking up many film and TV roles. He was a natural comedy actor and was a main contributor to the comedy series That Was The Week That Was and swiftly became a regular figure across the acting industry.
We’re profoundly sorrowful over his demise. At this delicate moment, we kindly request privacy for his family. His devoted wife, Renny Lister, along with their children, Nick, Mark, and Martha, are the ones who continue his legacy.
Through a social media post, Sandra Chalmers, his agent, declared the demise of a genuine legend, Kenneth Cope. It was always a pleasure working alongside him, and I feel privileged to have known him. Indeed, he embodied grace and gentlemanliness in the world of entertainment. Rest In Peace. (Paraphrased)
