Constantine 2 Producer Confirms He Has a Script He's "Too Scared" to Read (Exclusive)

As a lifelong fan of Keanu Reeves and the original Constantine movie, I can hardly contain my excitement for Constantine 2. The fact that even the producers are too afraid to read the script only adds to the intrigue! It’s like opening a mysterious box without knowing what treasure lies within. I’m hoping it will be as captivating and thrilling as the first one, with Keanu’s intense portrayal of John Constantine that left us spellbound.

The script for Constantine 2 has one of its producers too scared to actually read it. The sequel to 2005’s cult-classic film starring Keanu Reeves as the supernatural exorcist John Constantine has been in various stages of development over the years. Several stars from the original Constantine, like Rachel Weisz and Tilda Swinton, and director Francis Lawrence, have addressed returning for the sequel, and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has provided updates when he can. While fans wait to see where Constantine 2 falls on DC Studios’ priority list, di Bonaventura gave some details on this cryptic script.

During a chat before the launch of Transformers One, ComicBook brought up our previous discussion at San Diego Comic Con, where Lorenzo di Bonaventura disclosed that the Constantine 2 script was in progress. When asked if he had reviewed the script since then, di Bonaventura admitted that apprehension has prevented him from even opening it.

He mentioned that he knows it’s currently waiting in his inbox. Interestingly, he’s hesitant to open it, despite his strong hope that it will be positive. He plans to read it soon, perhaps within the next few days, especially when he’s on a plane.

Will Constantine 2 be a part of James Gunn’s DC slate?

Since Constantine 2 is still in its script phase, it remains uncertain if it will be among the upcoming projects under James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe. The theatrical franchise is slated for a relaunch next year with its debut film, Superman, featuring David Corenswet as Superman. It’s worth noting that not every DC movie will be part of this superhero universe; films such as the upcoming Joker: Folie a Deux and The Batman: Part II are set to tell their own independent stories, with no ties to existing continuity. Likely, Constantine 2 would follow suit.

In 2023, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura admitted he wasn’t entirely certain about the status of Constantine 2, as he isn’t deeply immersed in the project like others.
