As a long-time fan of Stephen Amell‘s work, I can’t help but marvel at his remarkable journey from the small screen to the squared circle. From his electrifying debut at SummerSlam in 2015 to his recent role in Heels, Amell has undeniably made a lasting impact on both the wrestling and acting worlds.
Stephen Amell has made a significant mark as one of the most successful celebrities who crossed over into professional wrestling, opening doors for others like Bad Bunny, Johnny Knoxville, Pat McAfee, and Logan Paul. His debut match was at WWE’s SummerSlam in 2015, during Arrow’s peak popularity on The CW. He partnered with Neville (now AEW’s PAC) against Stardust (Cody Rhodes) and Wade Barrett. Fans were particularly impressed by this match, leading to Amell teaming up with The Elite in Ring of Honor and even participating in a match at the inaugural All In event against Christopher Daniels. Since then, he’s re-entered the wrestling scene through his STARZ series, Heels, which is set to air on Netflix in 2025.
Will Stephen Amell Wrestle Again?
During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Amell jokingly commented on his wrestling days, acknowledging that Rhodes has teased him about potentially being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. “I’m flattered by that. Cody seems to believe I’m just one impressive WWE match away from possibly earning a spot similar to Snoop Dogg, and eventually joining the hall of fame.
Moreover, he also addressed a question that has been on many fans’ minds: is there any chance he will wrestle again? For Amell, the response isn’t straightforward as he wants to respect his wife’s feelings. “Whether I step into a ring again depends on how much I want to preserve my marriage,” he said. “I did mention that if Heels is successful and there’s potential for a crossover with Raw on Netflix and Suits on Peacock, then there could be opportunities for me in the WWE. However, I feel like I would need my wife to agree because she has had to take me to the hospital twice after matches. Once when I got injured during Heels and we even needed to get my hip x-rayed after All In. So perhaps just one more time. After completing the entire second season of Heels, we did a lot of action, but I came out okay” (h/t: Fightful).
According to Amell’s statement, starting in early 2025, WWE Raw is set to stream on Netflix as part of a $5 billion, ten-year contract. It has been disclosed that the WWE will modify the format of its red brand before the shakeup, but they expect to maintain some flexibility with their transition to Netflix.
