Bluey Takes Over as Number 1 Streaming Title in 2024

As a long-time fan of animated series that resonate with both children and adults, I must say, 2024 has been a remarkable year for streaming entertainment, especially with the meteoric rise of Bluey! This little Australian dog has not only captured my heart but also the hearts of millions of viewers in the United States.

An adorable Australian canine has risen to fame and prominence as the most recognized name in U.S. streaming platforms. Since its debut in 2018, Bluey has steadily gained popularity and reached new heights in the U.S., primarily due to the success of the Ludo series on Disney+. The show has consistently shattered records for Disney, but it truly cemented its position as the top streaming title in 2024 with a sustained success throughout the year.

As per data from Nielsen, Bluey has consistently ranked as the most-watched streaming show in the United States for the entire year of 2024 thus far. In the U.S., this series has accumulated over 35 billion minutes of viewership during 2024 alone.

It’s quite remarkable that Bluey has made its debut at number one on this year’s streaming rankings. Although it came very close in 2023, with an impressive 44 billion minutes streamed, it was outperformed by the surprise streaming sensation, Suits. Even though Suits wrapped up production years ago, its addition to Netflix last summer catapulted it to unprecedented popularity, racking up a staggering 57.7 billion minutes streamed throughout the year.

A significant factor behind Bluey‘s achievement in 2024 was the series of episodes that wrapped up Season 3, particularly the 28-minute special titled “The Sign.” This special garnered over 10 million views on Disney+ within its first week on the platform.

New Bluey on the Way

Currently, the standard “Bluey” series is taking a pause without any news yet about its resumption for new episodes. Luckily, Ludo has preempted this gap by producing a brief spin-off series titled “Bluey Mini Episodes”.

Earlier this year, Disney+ premiered the initial set of Minisodes, ranging from 1 to 3 minutes long. They’ve just announced that another group of seven Minisodes will be coming to the service on October 7th.

Here’s a full list of the new Bluey Minisodes, along with a brief synopsis:

  • “Tattoo Shop” – Dad visits the “tattoo shop” where the kids give him some ink. Dad wants skulls and snakes, so he can look tough. But when the time comes to look, it’s not quite what Dad envisioned.
  • “Phoney” – After a big day everyone wants to sit back and listen to some relaxing music except Unicorse, who keeps getting “Phony” to change the tune.
  • “Blocks” – When it’s time to go, Bluey and Bingo ask Nana to keep their tower from falling until they come back. Nana and Bob try to live in their smallish unit without knocking it over.
  • “Government” – Dad is using Bingo’s back as a typewriter to type a letter to the government demanding they do something about his errant children.
  • “Drums” – Bingo is in the music shop with mum when she discovers an electronic drum kit and some headphones.
  • “Browny Bear” – Someone keeps tapping people on the shoulder and then vanishing. it’s very annoying! Mum enlists PI Browny Bear to investigate.
  • “Whirlpool” – The kids make a whirlpool in the paddling pool and then jump into the swirling current.”
