As a devoted fan of American Idol, I can’t help but marvel at the remarkable journeys these talented individuals have embarked upon since their time on the show.
Kelly Clarkson knows Carrie Underwood has been waiting for a moment like this.
Kelly Clarkson, who will be starting her sixth season on NBC on September 23 as the host of “The Kelly Clarkson Show”, expressed her excitement for one of her fellow “American Idol” alumni to join the upcoming season as a judge. This comes after Katy Perry’s departure from the competition show.
In her interview with Keltie Knight on TopMob News, which airs on September 12th, Kelly expressed her admiration, saying, “That’s simply brilliant! It’s fantastic to consider bringing someone who has already proven their mettle on the show back again.
Kelly has personal experience with the amazing feeling of participating in a music competition show, having won the first season of American Idol and serving as a judge on The Voice. As she put it, she could see these artists and say, “This isn’t just empty praise. I was you, and this can become a reality if you work hard for it.
And Kelly believes Carrie—who won season four of American Idol—will also be able “to be honest with them,” especially because she’s experienced the same process and has gone on to have such “a huge career.”
Kelly remarked, “It’s priceless, having someone as a role model who proves that the task is achievable. Seeing them succeed gives me confidence to believe in my own capabilities and dare to dream big.
Emphasizing that Carrie was an “awesome pick,” the 42-year-old added, “I think she’s going to do great.” (For more from Kelly, tune into TopMob News tonight, Sept. 12, at 11 p.m.)
Besides Kelly, even Simon Cowell, a former judge on American Idol, can’t hide his excitement over Carrie’s new role as a judge. He too has shared his joy about the 41-year-old’s responsibilities.
Earlier, he expressed to TopMob News that his decision seems to be a wise one. He mentioned Carrie, saying they have known each other for a long time. Her audition, he recollects vividly, felt like it was just yesterday. She was incredibly talented back then, and she remains such a kind-hearted individual.
Moreover, Lionel Richie is delighted that Carrie will be teaming up with him and Luke Bryan, particularly since she shares a common background on American Idol.
Lionel praised the judge, saying to TopMob News in August, “She’s fantastic,” he commented. “Previously, we had to keep reassuring people, ‘We understand your feelings.’ However, as artists ourselves, our experiences have never matched being on American Idol. But she has been there and conquered that stage.
But don’t expect Carrie to dish out any harsh criticism to the contestants à la Simon.
She emphasized during SiriusXM’s Music Row Happy Hour in Las Vegas in August that she can be both truthful and helpful while maintaining kindness. She believes this balance is crucial because people are pursuing their dreams, and from that point forward, they become part of someone’s story.
The “Before He Cheats” singer confidently accepts the task of judging, given her versatility as an artist.
Carrie added, “When I evaluate performances during auditions, I aim to adapt perspectives as needed, considering the diverse range of music I might be considering.

Over the years, the mother of River and Remy has made significant strides since her appearance on the first season of American Idol in 2002. This New York native has racked up three Grammy Awards (with her latest album, Chemistry, nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2024 Grammys), achieved three No.1 hits, served as a judge on NBC’s The Voice, and now hosts her successful daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
In September 2008, the runner-up from season two, who later became famous for his red hair, made a couple of significant disclosures. He announced that the birth of his son named Parker (with his close friend and music producer Jaymes Foster) had led him to come out publicly. During an interview on Good Morning America, he explained, “I can’t raise a child and teach him how to lie or hide things. At the same time, I also don’t ever want to raise him in an environment where it’s not okay for him to be exactly who he is, no matter what.
Following his victory in season two of American Idol, Ruben garnered a Grammy nomination and put out several hit albums. In 2013, the artist appeared as a contestant on The Biggest Loser and gained popularity among fans. Despite being eliminated twice, he learned valuable lessons from the experience. Though Clay remains close, Ruben eventually found his lifelong companion in Kristin, who gave birth to their second child in 2024.
It turns out, the Season Three winner expresses her gratitude for each stage of her journey. As she put it during an interview with TopMob News in December, “Life throws things at you; you stumble, then rise again.” Despite facing some challenging times, she declared, “For me, losing everything twice and having to struggle to return, I feel victorious.
Although she didn’t win season three, let me assure you that the musician had an impressive comeback: She earned an Oscar in 2006 for her role in “Dreamgirls”, followed by a Grammy in 2017 for her work on the musical adaptation of “The Color Purple”. Additionally, she served as a judge on “The Voice”. Her upcoming project, just 14 months away, is a talk show under her own name – and she’s a mom to David.
From the moment she stepped onto the Idol stage, Underwood cemented her place in pop culture. Sure enough, not only did she win season four, but she’s also gone on to become country music’s reigning princess.
She went on to co-host the CMA Awards for more than 10 years with fellow artist, Brad Paisley. And between balancing her music career with her hosting duties, the “Jesus Take The Wheel Singer” is a mom to her two sons with retired NHL center Mike Fisher.
In a turn of events, the individual who came second in the fourth season is currently married and blessed with four children, three sons, and a daughter. Despite encountering severe health issues back in 2006, this Southern rock musician has managed to put out three successful albums since his time on Idol.
Known for his large hair and booming voice, particularly remembered for his dynamic performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” during season four, Constantine proved an ideal choice for the role in Broadway’s “Rock of Ages,” earning a Tony nomination. At present, he is on tour with his single “Comeback,” and also stars in Broadway’s “Rock & Roll Man.” His daughter, Malena, is 13 years old.
Following his triumph in season five, the silver fox experienced great success as his self-titled album went platinum and he graced the stage in a Broadway performance of “Grease”. More recently, he has transitioned from music to television, taking on the role of host for a program called “State-Plate”, which emphasizes farm-to-table dining. Despite this shift, he continues to nurture his initial passion, with tour dates scheduled for January 2024.
Prior to Justin Bieber mania, there was McPhee-mania, which helped Katharine secure roles in singing and acting, most notably in the Broadway-style show Smash and the drama Scorpion. Married to David Foster since 2019, she is now a mother to musically talented son Rennie. In an interview with TopMob News, Katharine expressed her hope that Rennie would follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming proficient in various musical instruments. “I would love for him to have the same versatility as his dad,” she said. “He’s only 2-and-a-half, so we’re not pushing him. But I do hope he’ll develop a strong understanding of multiple instruments like his father. I think he’s showing great potential in that regard—definitely.
Following his stint on “American Idol” during season five, the performer who charted with the song “Wait for You” traveled to Angola, collaborating with former judge Kara DioGuardi to promote Malaria No More and raise awareness. Additionally, Elliott made headlines in 2010 after surviving Chile’s earthquake and tweeting about the event. In his personal life, he is a father of three-year-old Camilla, sharing her with Karen Cruz while continuing his career in music.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the incredible journey of this country music sensation. Despite placing sixth on the fifth season of American Idol, she’s gone on to shine in Hallmark’s Christmas in Graceland and garnered three Daytime Emmy nominations for her TV show, Pickler & Ben.
2007 saw the record-breaking season six winner ignite a flurry of excitement. Her “Battlefield” tour swept through 35 American cities, and she further captivated audiences by making her Broadway debut in “In the Heights” in 2010. Since then, her career has flourished, leading to her becoming a mother for the first time with husband Dana Isaiah in May of 2018. In recent years, she’s revisited “Idol” and danced on the 31st season of “Dancing With the Stars.
Title of the season seven winner’s popular song, “Time of My Life,” mirrors his musical achievements, yet it could just as well describe his activities beyond the stage. In 2010, he traveled to Ethiopia for the United Nations’ mission to empower women in that nation. Additionally, he participated in the Race for Hope in D.C., raising funds for brain cancer research in memory of his late brother, Adam, who passed away from the disease in 2009. Having been married to Rachel Stump since 2015, the ongoing performer released his latest single “TABOS” in 2022.
Following his second-place finish behind fellow singer David during season seven, he undertook a two-year religious mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chile. Upon his 2014 return, he resumed his music career. Notably, in June 2021, he publicly identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community. Speaking on Instagram in October, he expressed that embracing himself has been a beautiful journey and hopes that by living openly, he can inspire others to do the same.
Despite being overshadowed by his runner-up Adam Lambert in media attention, the season eight winner has quietly achieved success with his self-named second album. Launched in November 2009, it entered the Billboard 200 at position 11, and one of its tracks, “I Need to Know,” was showcased on an episode of The Vampire Diaries.
If fame were a trophy, the runner-up from the eighth season who stirred controversy would be considered a home run winner. Ever since his time on the reality show, he’s launched multiple albums, headlined tours, garnered numerous nominations (including a Grammy recognition), stepped into Freddie Mercury’s shoes as the lead singer for Queen, and even took part in Fox’s revamp of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Following the eighth season of American Idol, Gokey tied the knot with his current spouse Leyicet Peralta in 2012. Together, they are proud parents to four beautiful children.
In 2021, a three-times Grammy nominee debuted a Christian music album titled “Jesus People“. Additionally, he runs his own eyewear company called Danny Gokey Eyewear.
Following his selection as one of the top 10 finalists in a summer tour in 2010, the season nine winner embarked on his solo music journey. Lee later tied the knot with model-actress Jonna Walsh in 2012, having initially met during the filming of his debut music video post-Idol. Presently, this artist is a successful singer-songwriter, with some of his tunes featured on popular series like The Walking Dead.
In season nine, the rock artist with a resemblance to Janis Joplin, who came second to Lee DeWyze, got married to musician Brian Walker and launched her debut album titled “Farmer’s Daughter” in December 2010. However, she lost her record deal when RCA dismantled Arista, J Records, and Jive Records. She made her acting debut on the second season of ABC’s “Body of Proof”. In May 2013, this singer parted ways with her husband. Following her divorce, she shared with The Boot that her second album “All That For This” was a reflection of the new phase in her life. Since then, the mother of two has released albums such as “Alive” in 2017 and “HitchHiker” in 2022.
The season 10 winner was the first champion of American Idol since Ruben to have his debut album, “Clear as Day,” reach number one on the Billboard 200. He was awarded New Artist of the Year at the 2011 American Country Awards and performed the national anthem prior to Game 1 of the World Series that year. In June 2018, the singer of “This Is It” and “Five More Minutes” tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Gabi Dugal. Their son, Avery, was born in October 2022.
After coming in second to Scotty on a popular singing competition, the beloved artist secured a record deal and launched her first studio album, “Wildflower,” in October 2011. Following her stint on the show, she shared the stage with Scotty at the 2011 CMT Music Awards, made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry, and even performed alongside Martina McBride at the CMA Music Festival.
The season 10 contestant only finished sixth—and that was partly because the judges used their one save of the season five weeks beforehand—but he was a cult fave. He performed on the Idols Live tour, cut a cover of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with fellow finalist (and rumored flame) Haley Reinhart, and ultimately signed with jazz label Concord.
His self-titled debut album was released in 2012, and was followed by 2018’s I Put A Spell On You and 2019’s Jazz.
Initially eliminated prior to the live voting rounds during season 10, Allen has had a remarkable comeback, releasing two chart-topping songs, “Best Shot” and “Make Me Want To,” in 2018 and winning the New Artist of the Year award at the 2021 Country Music Association Awards.
Following his victory on season 11, the artist skyrocketed to number one on the music charts with his popular single “Home,” which was also used as a theme song for NBC’s coverage of the 2012 Summer Olympics. His most recent album, “Drift Back,” was released in June this year.
The season 16 winner hinted to TopMob News before the 2019 release of her album, ‘Whirlwind’, that it features a variety of unique sounding songs. She explained that she can’t choose one specific style to stick with because she loves them all so much and finds it challenging to stay within one genre.
After finishing as the runner-up on season 16 of the ABC series, Caleb Lee has dedicated himself to putting out new music and seizing the chances that come with being on television. In an interview with TopMob News, he expressed his passion for music and his desire to become an artist, saying, “I’ve always loved music, but appearing on the show opened my eyes to so many aspects of entertainment.” He even got the opportunity to perform a song with Luke Bryan at one of Bryan’s concerts. His latest album, titled Southern Galactic, was released in November.
Following her third-place finish on season 16 of American Idol, the country singer known as “I Hope” dedicated herself to completing her album. She shared with TopMob News her eagerness for performing at Stagecoach and the delight she felt about touring alongside Brad Paisley, describing it as the perfect finale. “It’s amazing to go on tour with him,” she exclaimed.
Approaching two years since they became parents for the first time, sharing daughter Baylah, Cade Foehner and this singer welcomed son Augustine in October 2022. In August of this year, she announced that they were expecting their third child.
