Control 2 Agreement is With Annapurna Pictures, Says Remedy

As a seasoned video game enthusiast with a soft spot for Remedy Entertainment’s captivating narratives, I find myself watching this latest industry development with bated breath. The news about Annapurna Interactive’s internal upheaval has left many developers, including Remedy, in a state of flux.

Recenty, Annapurna Interactive experienced a significant change when president Nathan Gary and his team stepped down following discussions with their parent company about becoming an independent entity that didn’t work out. Despite Megan Ellison, owner of Annapurna Pictures, stating her commitment to backing developers and publishing partners, it appears that video game studios are still in a state of uncertainty.

In simpler terms, although Remedy Entertainment has partnered strategically with Annapurna for the co-funding of “Control 2”, it’s important to note that their agreement is specifically with Annapurna Pictures, not Annapurna in general. This clarification was made by Thomas Puha on Twitter.

A lot of you have been contacting us regarding the news involving Annapurna Interactive. I’m sorry to hear about the situation affecting everyone involved. Thank you for your concern! Regarding Remedy Entertainment’s deal for Control 2, which includes Alan Wake and Control as well, it is with Annapurna Pictures. We are planning to self-publish Control 2 ourselves (hopefully I made myself clear; it’s quite early here in Finland and I’m feeling the effects of jet lag).

Of course, that still leaves several other developers and projects, including No Code’s Silent Hill: Townfall, Niddhog developer Messhof’s Ghost Bike, Dinogod’s Bounty Star, Alcon Interactive Group’s Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, Beethoven and Dinosaur’s Mixtape, and more.

Currently, Hector Sanchez, President of Annapurna Interactive, has announced that the team will undergo a change, with existing staff being replaced. However, they are committed to honoring current agreements. The impact of these changes on the developer in the future is yet to be seen. Keep an eye out for updates in the meantime.

I’m getting a lot of messages concerning the latest developments about Interactive (I hope everyone involved is okay). Thank you for your concern! The agreement for Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming Control 2, which includes Alan Wake and Control A/V rights, is with Annapurna Pictures. We are taking on the publishing responsibilities ourselves.
