Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

As I delve into the captivating lives of these Gogglebox stars, I can’t help but marvel at their journeys from ordinary telly-watching folk to household names. The resilience and adaptability they’ve shown are truly inspiring.

Gogglebox returns to represent the collective thoughts of the nation, as there’s certainly no shortage of topics for discussion these days!

A prolonged Channel 4 show invites various individuals with differing perspectives, often referred to as “armchair commentators”, to share their thoughts on the most significant headlines, TV episodes, and movies from the last week.

The individuals involved in this activity are usually everyday folks – frequently pairs, relatives, groups of family members, or close friends. It’s their relatable insights and interactions that resonate with common spectators, ultimately winning a spot in their affections.

As a fresh administration takes over and the bustling fall TV schedule kicks off, not to mention Halloween quickly arriving, there’s no doubt that the experts on Gogglebox will have ample topics to chat about during this season.

Here’s everything you need to know about the participants in Gogglebox season 24 on Channel 4.

Elaine and Seb

Originating from the Forest of Dean, the pair comprising Elaine and her son, Seb, first appeared together last year, marking their on-screen premiere in the second episode of season 22.

Daniella and Danielle, two close friends hailing from Leeds, started watching the series back in 2022. They took over the roles previously held by Sandra and Sandi on the show.

What are their real jobs? Not much is known about what Daniella and Danielle do for work.

Roisin and Joe

Last year, the duo, Joe and Roisin, who reside in Glasgow, became part of the Gogglebox family. They’ve been together for a delightful four-year journey.

As a 26-year-old movie enthusiast residing in our shared family house in Glasgow with my dear girlfriend, Roisin (age 24), I’ve found myself nestled here since the onset of lockdown. When it comes to entertainment, I’m more inclined towards video games and the art of crafting pizzas, while Roisin’s passions lie in retail therapy and socializing with her circle of friends.

What do they actually do for a living? Roisin is the co-host of ‘Nags and Brags’ podcast along with a friend, and she also functions as a social media content creator.

Sharing some exciting news about Gogglebox on social media, Roisin expressed her astonishment by saying, “I find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that this is happening, or that we managed to keep it secret for so long, or that so many people will have caught a glimpse of me looking like a canned bean! Here we go with Gogglebox!

Anne and Ken

Anne and Ken originate from County Durham, similar to the band The Moffatts. In 2021, they were presented to millions of television audiences as a “couple who have shared 50 years of marriage.

It’s obvious that love continues to fill the atmosphere between them. When they made their debut on the program, Ken gifted Anne a bouquet of roses, symbolizing each year they have spent together.

From a curious fan like me, it seems Anne and Ken keep a low profile when it comes to their professional lives. I’m intrigued to learn more about the careers that occupy their days!

Ronnie and Annie

Two years back, the couple Ronnie and Annie from Southeast London made their appearance on the program for the first time as Gogglebox newcomers, starting in November of 2021.

Up until now on the program, it’s been disclosed that Ronnie is quite skilled at brewing an excellent pot of tea, and the audience seems to be smitten with the charming pair, the adorable Cockney duo.

It seems that, much like several other individuals on Gogglebox, Ronnie and Annie prefer to keep their professional details rather discreet. So, we’re not exactly sure what their real jobs are.

Sue and Steve

In the fourteenth series of Gogglebox, Steve and his wife Sue made their debut in 2019. The pair tend to keep their personal life under wraps but occasionally provide glimpses into their activities via social media. Recently, they were vacationing in Dubai, enjoying plenty of relaxation, savoring delicious cuisine, and shopping for handbags.

What are their real jobs? Sue is semi-retired and Steve is a black cab driver.

Simon and Jane

In 2021, Gogglebox welcomed new faces, Simon and Jane, who have become frequent guests on the program since then.

The duo, who record Gogglebox from a North London apartment belonging to Simon, are popular among the show’s followers for their witty humor and diverse selection of tasty treats.

What do Simon and Jane actually do for a living? Simon serves as a disability consultant and TV host (outside of his role on Gogglebox), specifically as the co-host of the BBC Ouch! podcast. Last year, it was observed that Jane worked in a bakery, as evidenced by a photo she shared of herself making cakes.

Giles and Mary

The unique pair, admired by many viewers, are well-liked for their eccentric aesthetic and furnishings. One of their armchairs aligns perfectly with the wallpaper in their home.

Giles works as an artist, while Mary is primarily recognized for her role as The Spectator’s advice columnist and also as a self-proclaimed etiquette queen.

Ellie and Izzi

Ellie and Lizzi, two sisters hailing from Leeds, initially appeared on the program in 2015. At the start, they had concerns about whether their story would resonate with the audience.

After five years, the confessed “armchair enthusiasts” have become one of the beloved pairs on this program, consistently amusing us with their witty back-and-forth and shared passion for delicious cuisine.

What do Izzi, mom of two Bobby and Bessie Rose, and Ellie primarily do for work? Izzi is a self-employed mortgage advisor with her own business, Izzi Warner Mortgages, while her sister Ellie works as a hairdresser based in Leeds.

Jenny and Lee

In a caravan in Hull, the amusing duo from the TV show “Gogglebox” are not related; instead, they’re simply good friends.

Jenny secured a spot on the show after meeting two of its researchers at Beverley Races Ladies’ Day. It is said that they immediately enrolled her on the spot.

They share an Instagram account, with over 800,000 followers.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been wondering about the day-to-day lives of Jenny and Lee from Caravan Dreams. It seems their professions aren’t explicitly known to me yet, but here’s an interesting tidbit: they crossed paths when Jenny ran the Crown Inn pub in Paull, and Lee was a frequent patron.

Amira and Amani

Instagram: @amira_gogglebox and @amani_gogglebox.

Amira and Amani, two sisters residing in North London, sometimes have their family acquaintance, Iqra, visit them. Initially, Amira made her appearance on the show during season 10 alongside Iqra. However, it was later in the series that Amani became a regular character.

In the year 2019, Amira graduated and shared a photo of her commencement on Instagram. She mentioned that she had formed friendships that were not just dear to her but also held in high esteem due to their profound and immense respect. The question that arises is: What professions do these individuals hold now?

Pete and Sophie

In 2017, the sibling pair, Pete and Sophie, initially became part of the cast, and their unique humor and quirky appearances quickly won over everyone’s hearts.

What do Sophie and Pete actually do for a living? Sophie is employed as a store window decorator in Blackpool, and it’s said that Pete works in the insurance sector. In the year 2021, Pete welcomed his first child into the world.

The Siddiquis

Baasit, Umar, and their father Sid are frequently seen on the program and hold a special place in viewers’ hearts. This close-knit family resides in Derby, and other family members like Raza, the sibling, and mom sometimes join them on the show too.

What do Sid, Umar, and Baasit currently do for employment?

The Plummers

In the eighth season of the show, the Plummer brothers – Tremaine, Twaine, and Tristan – became part of Gogglebox. They record their reactions to television shows from their home in Bristol. Tristan, in particular, has a passion for sports; he played semi-professionally for Bristol FC between 2007 and 2010.

What do Tristan, Twaine, and Tremaine actually do for work?

John and Beryl

Instagram: N/A

John and Berlyn became part of the Gogglebox team during season 12 in 2018, yet they’ve kept their personal lives quite discreet on the program, only mentioning that they reside in the city of London.

During the program, Beryl hinted that John had retired approximately a decade prior, which would have been around 2008. So, one might wonder what their current professions are now?

David and Shirley

Instagram: @dave_shirl_gogglebox

For four decades, David and Shirley have been a loving couple and have brought up two wonderful children. They first appeared on the program back in 2015, and they’ve been contributing from their cozy home in Wales ever since.

What do they actually do for a living? In terms of their primary occupations, Dave, aged 65, works as a factory cleaner and Shirley, who is also 66, spends her time in retail. However, Dave has a passion for baking and dreams of participating in The Great British Bake Off, if given the chance!

Abbie and Georgia

Instagrams: @abbiieelynn and @georgbell_

Two longtime Gogglebox contributors from Durham are Abbie and Georgia, who have been part of the show since 2018. They’ve created many memorable moments, but they gained significant recognition for their reaction to the 2018 John Lewis ad, where they debated whether “Your Song” was originally sung by Ellie Goulding or Elton John.

What do they actually do for a living? Georgia works as a hairstylist, whereas Abbie has been in the role of a credit controller for three years.

The Malones

Instagram: @themalonesgb

Among the longest-running families on the program, who first appeared in season four, the Malones are greatly admired by fans.

They’re recognized for their straightforward comments, large meal servings, and affectionate dogs that aren’t timid around cameras. Starting with season 17, Tom Jr. will no longer feature on the Channel 4 program.

What do they actually do for a living? Tom Senior is a truck driver, Mom Julie works at a reception, Tom Junior is a freelance model and street dance choreographer. He has also worked with the Black Eyed Peas and was in Billy Elliott until he started coaching football.

The Worthingtons

In the 10th season, I, along with my spouse, found ourselves joining the cast, accompanied by our daughter, Helena. Our household, nestled in Manchester, expanded a few years back when Helena welcomed a new member, our grandson, Edwin, into our family.

What do they primarily do for work, specifically in terms of their main professions or vocations? (In this case, Helena Worthington’s primary professions are sculpting and painting.)

Previous Goggleboxers

Daniel and Stephen

Initially, Stephen made an appearance on Gogglebox alongside his boyfriend Chris at that time. Unfortunately, they parted ways, but since 2019, he has been accompanied by his spouse, Daniel, on the show.

Starting in 2023, Daniel and Stephen have announced they won’t be reappearing on the television series Gogglebox. In a statement, Channel 4 explained: “After an exceptional and memorable journey on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have chosen to take a leap and venture out of their armchairs, deciding to step away from the show as they embark on new adventures.

From the beginning of Gogglebox, Stephen has been a source of laughter for viewers with his witty comments. He’s shared his thoughts on significant TV moments from the past decade, making the show even more enjoyable. We appreciate their contributions to our program and are excited to see what they will do next in their future endeavors.

This January, it was announced that Stephen’s mother, Pat Webb, tragically died at the age of 75, according to Googlebox.

From series 10 through 12, I had the privilege of being a cherished cast member, standing side by side with my son, Stephen, on the show.

As one of Mummy Pat’s cherished fans, I can attest to the profound impact she had on her beloved children – Stephen, Denise, Sharon, Beverley, and their extended family. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, yet we yearn for her presence. At this difficult moment, our thoughts are deeply with the family, granting them the privacy they deserve as they navigate this sorrowful time.

Paige and Sally

The team on the show, consisting of Paige and Sally (a mother-daughter duo residing in Birmingham), initially came on board in 2019 but left the show in 2021 after experiencing a disagreement.

So, while Mum Sally, aged 53, dedicates her time to caring for the disabled and the elderly, Paige, who is 23 years old, holds down a job as a manager in business development.

The Ven Family

In series 11, individuals hailing from South London – Marcus, Mica, Sachelle, and Shuggy – became part of the Gogglebox family. Their vivacious natures and Marcus’ side-splitting remarks endeared them to viewers across the nation.

Nonetheless, Marcus and Mica departed from the program in December 2022. Interestingly, Mica has been featured on BBC One’s Celebrity MasterChef competition this year, 2023.

After leaving the show, Mica resumed her career as a hairstylist at her salon in London. Marcus, on the other hand, is involved in business, boxing coaching, and gym management. He established TM Boxing Gym in 2009 with a focus on helping young people from the local community who may be facing disadvantages, and he even trained his son Shiloh there.

The Michaels

The Michaels, long-time residents of Brighton, have been cherished fixtures and consistent viewers of the program ever since its debut.

From time to time, Louis would sit with his folks, Andrew and Carolyne, on the couch, and in past seasons, his sister Alex was a regular guest on the program as well.

Regrettably, it has been reported that the beloved Gogglebox cast member, Andy Michael, passed away at the age of 61 after a brief illness.

The family have since exited the show.

It’s with profound regret that we announce the death of Gogglebox personality, Andy Michael, at the age of 61 after a brief illness. Our sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult period. The entire Gogglebox community, including cast and staff, will greatly miss Andy.

Mary and Marina

Mary and Marina joined the show in 2016, and quickly became faves on the show.

Regardless of their advanced years, these women maintained a youthful spirit and didn’t shy away from laughter. Frequently, they found themselves engrossed in discussions about their romantic affairs.

In August 2021, Gogglebox favourite Mary Cook died aged 92.

Marina decided to step away from the series, as she penned a heartfelt message to her friend.

The Moffatts

Scarlett Moffatt was the shining star of Gogglebox, but her run on the show ended when she joined I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2016. After winning that show, she has found success with roles on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Channel 4’s revamped dating program Streetmate.

Initially, she started appearing on Googlebox alongside her parents Betty and Mark as far back as 2014. She became well-known for her witty remarks. After her departure from the Channel 4 program, her parents eventually followed suit.

Sandi and Sandra

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

Instagrams: @sandigogglebox and @official_queen_bee_brixton_

The renowned pair, Sandi and Sandra, charmed audiences with their ever-evolving hairdos, vibrant clothing choices, unique TV munchies, and larger-than-life personalities. Regrettably, they opted to part ways (on the screen, at least), and Sandi’s daughter Chanchez stepped in for Sandi. Eventually, Sandra herself left the program in 2017.

Sandi serves as a mother of two and a grandmother of five. Prior to her current role, she ran several wine bars in South London and even had the opportunity to perform at the Tower in Blackpool alongside Larry Grayson. In essence, Sandra is a proud parent of four kids and three grandkids.

Bill and Josef

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

The duo has been absent from Gogglebox recently, but off-screen, they lead quite remarkable lives. Bill boasts a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University, is a renowned journalist, and was once the British Chess Champion. On the other hand, Josef is not only an accountant but also holds the titles of World Cluedo and Scottish Monopoly Champion.

The Woerdenwebers

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

The Woerdenweber family is particularly recognized for the wit of Ralf, and for Jay, who was once Eve’s boyfriend, often found silent while seated on the couch.

In my perspective, my remarkable mom, Viv, operates a captivating tattoo studio that showcases her artistic talents. Just a stone’s throw away, my sister Eve manages a distinctive New Age boutique, where she offers an array of intriguing incense, essential oils, and Pagan jewelry that resonate with the spirit of ancient wisdom.

Rev. Kate and Graham

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

Between 2014 and 2016, the pair spent their evenings on the couch watching television alongside their greyhound Buster. Reverend Kate and Graham, who have been a couple for 22 years and share two children, departed from the show after two years. Since then, Kate has gained significant popularity in the TV industry.

She frequently appears as a host on BBC One’s Songs of Praise, and competed in Celebrity MasterChef in 2017. Additionally, she serves as a radio broadcaster.

Linda & Pete McGarry, and George Gilbey

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

George was known for appearing on the show with his mum Linda and stepdad Pete.

In 2014, he temporarily exited the program to participate in Celebrity Big Brother. After a gap of two years, he re-joined the show. Later on, he decided to leave the show for good as well.

In 2016, Linda and her partner Pete reappeared on the show. Regrettably, news broke in June 2021 that beloved Gogglebox personality Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71, following a brief bout with illness.

It is with great sadness that we pass along the news: “Channel 4 reported that beloved Gogglebox personality, Pete McGarry, passed away at the age of 71 this weekend. He was surrounded by his loved ones during his brief illness.

Pete, along with his wife Linda and her son George, first appeared on Gogglebox during the second season back in 2013. Since then, the Clacton family has been a constant presence and beloved members of the show from the seventh series in 2016. The entire Gogglebox community will deeply miss Pete.

The Tappers

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

The rather boisterous family of four residing in North London lost their place on Gogglebox following Amy’s appearance on Celebs Go Dating. This change was a result of the show’s policy, which prohibits casting any celebrities.

More recently, Nikki and Jonathan marked their 23rd marriage milestone. Jonathan, who works as a driver, has undergone a remarkable transformation, losing approximately 3 stone 7 lbs, making him nearly unrecognizable from his days on Gogglebox. Meanwhile, their son Josh is making strides in the field of politics.

Steph and Dom

Meet the Gogglebox cast – the families and their jobs in real life

As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I’d rephrase it as follows: Your humble narrator, a fan of opulence and hospitality, was initially captivated by the stylish couple who owned a lavish B&B. They were the breakout sensations on the show. Subsequently, they graced our screens with their own TV series, only to announce an indefinite hiatus from the show in 2016. In their words at that time, “Even the best things can become too much.
