The debut trailer for the Minecraft Movie was unveiled recently, featuring an illustrious cast and being adapted from one of the world’s most renowned video game series. However, the response to the trailer has been less than favorable, with many critics labeling it as “cursed” and expressing regret towards Minecraft’s storyline.
A reimagined animated version of the Minecraft trailer already has 3.4 million views and 372,000 likes on YouTube. The official trailer from Warner Bros. for the Minecraft Movie has 34 million views and 657,000 likes. Those figures are quite close when you consider one is a fan-made trailer that was created in four days.
2021 saw YouTube eliminating like counters from videos, making it challenging to gauge reactions to the official Minecraft Movie and animated trailer trailers precisely. However, using the Return YouTube Dislike extension on your browser reveals an interesting discrepancy: the official trailer amassed approximately 1.5 million dislikes, while the animated one garnered a mere 749 dislikes. Keep in mind that these numbers are based on “extrapolated extension user behavior,” making them somewhat approximate rather than exact figures. Nevertheless, given this data, it seems clear that the Minecraft Movie trailer has received substantial disapproval among viewers.
