OpenAI introduced two latest AI systems: the preliminary version of OpenAI o1 and a more compact model called OpenAI o1-mini. As its name implies, the mini version is smaller and costs 80% less than the preview version. However, it’s important to note that while this approach may reduce the likelihood of generating incorrect responses or spreading misinformation, it doesn’t guarantee it entirely. However, the new next-gen AI models take longer to generate responses since they require “an extra moment to think.” Based on the shared benchmarks, OpenAI o1 outperforms most available AI models, including the ‘magical’ GPT-4o.

In other words, the advanced AI models are only available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users in a trial phase, which means you’ll require a paid subscription to utilize the primary models. It’s important to mention that OpenAI o1 will have a weekly message limit of 30, whereas the smaller version allows up to 50.

However, by 2025, it seems our existing electrical infrastructure may not be sufficient to fuel this progress.
