What you need to know
- As teased earlier in the year, Overwatch 2’s latest crossover is with another big Blizzard Entertainment title, World of Warcraft.
- This crossover event includes a number of World of Warcraft-themed skins for Overwatch characters, including a Lich King skin for Reinhardt, a Sylvanas skin for Widowmaker, and more.
- The Overwatch 2 x World of Warcraft crossover event kicks off on Sep. 17, 2024.
As a long-time fan of both Overwatch and World of Warcraft, this crossover event feels like a dream come true for me! Growing up, I spent countless hours exploring Azeroth and battling it out on the battlefields of Overwatch. The thought of seeing these two universes merge is simply exhilarating.
Another major collaboration is on its way to Blizzard Entertainment’s free-to-play shooter, and this time it involves a different Blizzard title.
As a researcher delving into the exciting world of video games, I’m thrilled to share that Overwatch 2 is set to embark on an extensive collaboration with World of Warcraft. This partnership, first hinted at during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2024, promises a series of themed skins for select characters. Among these, Reinhardt will don the ominous Lich King skin, while Widowmaker will adopt a new persona in the form of Sylvanas. For a sneak peek into this crossover, be sure to watch the trailer linked below!
As an analyst, I am thrilled to announce that on September 17, 2024, I will be witnessing and participating in the exciting collaboration between Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft. This event is just another testament to the innovative partnerships that Overwatch 2 has been forging throughout the year, with notable collaborations such as Cowboy Bebop and Transformers.
You can play Overwatch 2 for free on platforms like the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, you’ll enjoy additional in-game benefits.
Analysis: A fitting collaboration
This exciting gathering links Overwatch 2 with the grand 20th anniversary festivities of World of Warcraft.
Despite a decline in player numbers for some time, World of Warcraft has continued to stand as a cornerstone of gaming. It’s been wonderful to observe my friends and colleagues immersed in The War Within, which appears to be off to an impressive beginning. As a dedicated Reinhardt player, I can’t help but want that skin, while Sylvanas for Widowmaker is equally alluring.
This year, it’s been entertaining to observe all the collaborations Overwatch 2 has had. While it’s not as intense as what Call of Duty experienced, I’m wondering if there are any more collaborations on the way this year or if they’ll take a break for a bit.
