The Batman Composer Michael Giacchino's Son Is Scoring The Penguin

As a seasoned gamer and DC enthusiast with a penchant for gritty storytelling, I can’t help but feel exhilarated about HBO’s upcoming series, “The Penguin.” With Matt Reeves’ distinctive touch extending to yet another chapter in the Batman saga, it’s evident that we are delving deeper into the dark alleys of Gotham City.

In a short while, HBO’s “The Penguin” series will make its appearance, enriching Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the DC universe. As we eagerly await the premiere of “The Penguin”, it has been revealed that there’s a special connection between the series production and “The Batman“. It turns out that Mick Giacchino, renowned for his work on “The Muppets Mayhem”, “Zootopia+”, and “That Dirty Black Bag”, will be composing music for every episode of “The Penguin”.

Besides his own body of work, Giacchino is also the son of the renowned composer behind The Batman’s music, Michael Giacchino. In an interview with The Wrap, Michael himself has announced that he will be reprising his role for The Batman Part II, set to release in 2026, further cementing his iconic contribution to the character’s contemporary pop-culture impact.

What Is The Penguin About?

The Penguin is being referred to as “the next chapter in The Batman saga from Matt Reeves.”

In this show, Colin Farrell takes on the role of Oz Cobb, Cristin Milioti portrays Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz is Victor Aguilar, Michael Kelly appears as Johnny Viti, Shohreh Aghdashloo plays Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O’Connell depicts Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown embodies Salvatore Maroni, James Madio joins the cast as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen is Luca Falcone, Michael Zegen acts as Alberto Falcone, Carmen Ejogo stars as Eve Karlo, and Theo Rossi assumes the character of Dr. Julian Rush.

Will Batman Appear in The Penguin?

A significant point of discussion about the TV show “The Penguin” is whether Robert Pattinson’s character as Bruce Wayne/Batman will be involved, serving to connect the series with the 2026 film “The Batman Part II.” However, in a chat with “SFX Magazine,” the producers of “The Penguin,” Lauren LeFranc, and the director of “The Batman,” Matt Reeves, have clarified that Batman will not show up for any kind of guest appearance in the series.

LeFranc pointed out that while some people might feel that a show or movie lacks impact without Batman, he personally believes that Matt’s films offer a unique perspective. He compares the experience of watching these films to looking down on the city from a height as Batman, contrasting it with Oz’s perspective of being in the city streets and striving to rise above. LeFranc suggests that Gotham is a fascinating city with many untold stories, and he’s eager for us to explore more of its mysteries.

Reeves agreed, stating that the new film doesn’t seem to lack any essential elements. Instead, he sees it as an expansion of what was already fundamentally established. We’re dealing with the world of Batman here, and we’re venturing down a different path. So, while the essence of Batman is present, so are the shadows of the Riddler and all the events from the last movie. These elements shape the storyline, serving as our starting point.

The Penguin will premiere exclusively on HBO on September 19th.
