As a seasoned observer of human relationships, I find myself deeply saddened by the turn of events between Jenn and Devin. It seems like their love story has taken a dramatic and public twist, leaving both parties hurt and betrayed.
Jenn Tran’s final episode of “The Bachelorette” could potentially become one of the most thrilling ever, but things didn’t seem that way initially. Following her farewell to second-place contestant Marcus Shoberg, Jenn proposed to Devin Strader in Hawaii.
On the talk show ‘After the Final Rose’ hosted by Jesse Palmer, she shared that it was the most joyful day in her life. She expressed that she believed she had finally found the person she wished to share the rest of her life with.
However, things took a turn for the worse after Jenn and Devin departed from Hawaii. She expressed her concerns by stating that he began distancing himself, evident in less frequent texting or calling and a lack of commitment to their future plans.
Later in early August, Devin called off their engagement over the phone. However, in an Instagram video that was later removed, he claimed he had attempted to discuss it with Jenn face-to-face, but she allegedly made him bring up the topic unwillingly.
She continued by stating that he essentially communicated he no longer held affection for her and wasn’t feeling the same way as before, and that something had felt amiss since the moment he proposed. It was later revealed that he regretted their engagement – a fact she was unaware of. Although she sensed all along that things were different, she didn’t realize the full extent of it until then.
During the AFR, Devin confessed that he harbored significant uncertainties concerning their relationship and that unfortunately, he held back these sentiments. Although he asserted that he had expressed his stance to Jenn, he conceded that he was “regrettably tardy” in revealing his true feelings.
Still, Devin denied Jenn’s claims that he’d stopped putting effort into their relationship.
He expressed that regardless of what he was engaged in during many instances, no matter how hard he strived, it simply wasn’t satisfactory, as stated in his Instagram video on September 10, which subsequently exposed their private messages. He added that no matter the effort he invested, it persistently affected him emotionally. At that critical juncture, he had to make a choice based solely on his own happiness.
However, given that Devin had expressed his affection for Jenn during the entire season, she pondered over what might have led to the sudden decay of their previously blossoming relationship.
During our conversation on the September 9th episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, she explained that he had been harboring doubts all along but hadn’t verbalized them. At that time, the show hadn’t aired yet. When he confided in her, ‘I felt pressured to get engaged. I didn’t want to get engaged. I had so many doubts,’ she took it in stride, thinking, ‘Oh, okay.’ Later, upon rewatching the show, she realized, ‘Hold on. You were saying things that made me think you wanted to propose. I wasn’t crazy for believing you wanted to propose. In fact, you did want to propose on the show.’
As a devoted follower, I find myself pondering if I truly understood his intentions all along. Reflecting back, I still can’t grasp who he genuinely is as an individual, which seems quite extraordinary given that the person I encountered during the show bears little resemblance to who he is today.

Jenn Tran expressed concerns about her relationship with Devin Strader shortly after he proposed to her in Hawaii, as some unusual red flags emerged. On a September 9 episode of the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast, she recalled that the day following their engagement, Devin inquired from the producers about the usual duration of relationships on the show. This question left Jenn puzzled, as it seemed premature for him to be contemplating a possible breakup so soon. Although she didn’t think much of it at the time, she found it an odd and peculiar query.
Jenn alleged this wasn’t the only time Devin backed out during their long-distance romance. She also said he didn’t text, call or fly out to see her as often as she expected and that she questioned how much effort he was putting into the relationship.
“There would just be so many instances in which I wouldn’t hear from him for a whole day or a whole evening,” the physician assistant student stated on Bachelor Happy Hour. “It’s like, ‘I don’t need to be talking to you all the time.’ But I don’t know, it was just weird.”
For his part, Devin called Jenn’s comments about the amount of love and effort he displayed after their engagement as “false claims” and insisted his feelings on the show were real.
“I know that’s getting confused by a lot of people based off of Jenn saying that I pulled away immediately after Hawaii,” the freight company owner said in a since-deleted video posted to Instagram Sept. 10. “But I actually only ever pulled away and started becoming distant post-breakup. And not just right after our breakup, we’re talking about almost the end of the month breakup.”
He also said it was hard to watch himself “play second” to runner-up Marcus Shoberg on the show and that he wasn’t Jenn’s “first choice.”
“I don’t fault her for the feelings that she had towards Marcus,” Devin added, “but I wasn’t informed of that even during our relationship.”
But in a Sept. 10 interview on Off the Vine With Kaitlyn Bristowe, Jenn said she wouldn’t have “chosen anybody different.”
In my role as a lifestyle guide, let me share an intimate personal experience that took place in August. Even before then, I sensed a change, a disconnect in my relationship with Devin that was hard to ignore.
Despite believing we had resolved our issues, it all unraveled when Jenn proposed a phone call after her latest episode of The Bachelorette. What followed was an enigmatic text message from him. He suggested we discuss things tomorrow, as if we were some idealized ‘happy couple.’ I felt uneasy about the ambiguity and asked him to talk immediately.
He attempted to arrange a meeting with her and accompany the happy couple, but she declined, explaining that she felt undeserving if it was merely going to end their relationship. He found himself at a loss for alternatives. Essentially, she had left him no choice.
In his video, Devin emphasized that he and Jenn had numerous discussions about their breakup following their separation. He also mentioned in his September 10 post that he had always kept her informed and been transparent about his beliefs, especially regarding his emotions during that period.
In his video, Devin admitted that he was taken aback when he discovered during the AFR event on September 4th that Jenn and he were not in a good place as he had thought. He was stunned and shocked by the portrayal of their relationship on TV, describing it as absurd and disheartening because it didn’t reflect reality. Devin did not want to argue with Jenn about it. However, Jenn questions what Devin had expected from her. On Nick Viall’s podcast, she asked, “What did he think was going to happen? Was I just supposed to shake his hand and say goodbye?
During the After-Film Retreat (AFR), Jenn confronted Devin about taking so long to express his feelings towards her. While he claimed to have been honest about having doubts post-show, he acknowledged that he was late in doing so.
Following the publication of Devin’s Instagram video, containing their private messages with each other, Jenn responded by stating on The Viall Files that she had not watched the video and did not intend to. She explained that she was already aware of what transpired between them, and a 13-minute video about it wasn’t necessary. In her view, Devin had squandered six months of her life already, and she refused to waste another second on him, let alone 13 minutes. Jenn also mentioned that she was puzzled as to why Devin would choose to do this.
When you become engaged or are in a relationship with someone, it’s never your initial concern that your messages could be broadcasted to the public, as this feels like an invasion of privacy. This was how Jenn felt, expressing that she was deeply betrayed, disrespected, upset, and disappointed.
She made it clear that she has no issue with him expressing himself openly, but she strongly disapproves of his actions regarding her privacy – specifically, sharing personal texts without prior consent. He seemed to have overlooked blurring out some extremely private details while attempting to censor others, which feels like her personal matters are being exposed online, as if he’s sharing information publicly that belongs to ‘his mom’.
Jenn spoke about a popular video showing Devin socializing with another woman, which surfaced after their separation. During the Bachelor Happy Hour, she stated that this incident occurred two weeks prior to AFR and they had been discussing reconciliation at that point. However, they were officially broken up when this took place. Yet, there was hope for a possible reunion and resolution of their issues.
