As a devoted cinephile with a keen eye for directors who weave enchanting narratives, I find myself captivated by the illustrious career of Luc Besson. His cinematic journey has spanned various genres and territories, from the cosmic grandeur of The Fifth Element to the aquatic drama of The Big Blue. Yet, it is Leon: The Professional that holds a special place in my heart.


As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that I’ve always been captivated by the diverse and extensive collection of films directed by Luc Besson. From high-budget blockbusters like The Fifth Element and Valerian to art house masterpieces such as The Big Blue, not forgetting franchise movies like Taxi and Arthur, his work is nothing short of impressive.

1994 saw the release of this classic film, which continues to be highly cherished. Regardless of its final scene, viewers can’t help but wonder, ‘Could there possibly be a Leon 2?’

The initial movie grossed just $20 million globally, but has maintained its success through Home Entertainment releases, attracting new viewership. Additionally, there’s a Director’s Cut version that offers additional scenes, such as one where Natalie Portman’s character expresses her desire to have a baby to Leon and another where, after training her, Leon accompanies her on a mission – this sequence is quite entertaining. If you haven’t watched the Director’s Cut yet, it’s definitely worth finding.
