As a die-hard fan of the Alan Wake series, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and skepticism regarding the upcoming PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2. On one hand, the fact that it will be optimized for the mid-gen upgrade is a promising sign. However, the recent Digital Foundry analysis suggesting that it might only run at 864p or 1260p has left some fans, including myself, questioning whether this upgrade is enough to justify our excitement.
At the launch of the PS5 Pro in November, several games will already feature improvements for the mid-generation upgrade, and among those officially announced, it’s clear that “Alan Wake 2” is one of the most notable titles receiving these enhancements.
Based on Digital Foundry’s analysis, it was discovered that the survival horror game, as demonstrated by Sony last week on the hypothetical PS5 Pro, is operating at an internal resolution of either 864p at 60 frames per second or 1260p at 30 frames per second. To achieve higher resolutions, PSSR (PlayStation’s State Restoration) technology is employed, similar to the base PS5 version that uses AMD’s FSR 2 instead of PSSR for this purpose.
It’s not surprising that this update has faced criticism from people who wonder if it’s significant enough to deserve notice at all. However, Remedy Entertainment’s communication director, Thomas Puha, has attempted to alleviate concerns by offering some reassurances.
On ResetEra, he expressed his anticipation for the PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2, calling it an “unexpected delight.” Moreover, he emphasized that image quality would play a more significant role than the game’s rendering resolution. He also hinted at sharing further details and sneak peeks within the upcoming weeks.
Puha stated, “The clarity of an image is more significant than its resolution, although I’m not verifying anything.” He further added, “In the forthcoming weeks, we’ll disclose details about the PS5 Pro edition of Alan Wake 2, along with some visuals. I believe this version will be quite impressive, but it’s challenging to predict these days.
The new model of PlayStation 5, called PS5 Pro, is scheduled to debut on November 7 at a price point of $699. At its release, it will offer around 40-50 games with specific enhancements. For more information about this console, please visit the link provided.
