As a dedicated Splatoon enthusiast who has ink-soaked controllers to prove it, the news of the regular updates ending for Splatoon 3 is bittersweet. On one hand, I’ve spent countless hours splatting my way through the vibrant worlds and engaging in epic Splatfests, but on the other, the anticipation of what’s to come next keeps me eagerly awaiting.
Following its debut, Nintendo has announced that they will no longer provide regular updates for the game Splatoon 3. Over the weekend, the Grand Festival event unfolded within the game, featuring a special extended Splatfest with all seven idols from the series, themed around Past, Present, and Future. While there was much anticipation about whether this was the final grand Splatfest for Splatoon 3, Nintendo has now confirmed it on their Twitter account. Nevertheless, players can look forward to recurring themes and occasional weapon updates when necessary.
Following two fantastic years filled with fun in Splatoon 3, the routine updates are about to wrap up. But don’t fret! Classic events like Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will carry on with some familiar themes returning. (Nintendo post)
Speculation is running high among fans as Nintendo hasn’t officially announced plans for a fourth Splatoon installment, but hints dropped by Nintendo have sparked excitement. It seems likely that the company is now gearing up to start production on Splatoon 4, and players are eagerly searching for signs related to the Grand Festival event. Historically, the final significant Splatfest often influences the next Splatoon game, so fans are on the hunt for any clues about what’s in store this time around!
2025 signifies the 10-year milestone for the original “Splatoon” series, which has been a significant success for Nintendo throughout the past decade. The initial game was released on the Wii U console, a system that struggled with global sales. Remarkably, it still managed to sell over 4.95 million units, leading to two sequels on the Nintendo Switch. Interestingly, “Splatoon 2” did not debut alongside the current Switch model but was launched only a few months later. This strategic move seems to have paid off for Nintendo, as the game has sold more than 13.6 million copies since then.
If the predicted successor to the Switch, often referred to as the “Switch 2,” is set to debut in 2025, Splatoon 4 could be a strong contender among the games launching on the new platform. Although details about the “Switch 2” remain uncertain, whispers hint at a potential announcement for the system happening as soon as this month.
