On September 15th, the model, who is 40 years old, shared on her Instagram that she had received a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
On last Sunday, Balti admitted herself to the Emergency Room where they diagnosed her with stage 3C ovarian cancer in her lower abdomen. It’s been a week filled with apprehension, discomfort, weeping, yet predominantly love, optimism, laughter, and fortitude.
The model featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit faces her cancer struggle with a hopeful spirit, citing the encouragement from her loved ones as the driving force behind her determined efforts to win this battle.
As I embark on a challenging path, I am confident that I will conquer it. For me, my family – particularly my cherished daughters – and those of you seeking resilience, allow me to share some of my fortitude with you because there’s an abundance to go around.
Balti, who co-parents Matilde, 17, with ex-spouse Christian Lucidi, and Mia, 9, with current partner Matthew McRae, finished off her wellness post with a motivational note for her audience.
She expressed, “Things just occur in life; provide them with purpose.” So far, cancer has provided an opportunity for me to discover beauty amidst life’s obstacles.
In addition to her declaration, the Italian model shared numerous joyful selfies and video clips captured during her hospital stay, surrounded by family members and healthcare professionals.
In one of the videos, Balti further elaborated on her positive outlook as she tackles cancer.
She shared with the camera that she is greatly improving, expressing gratitude for discovering her current state of health. After undergoing surgery, she mentioned that they removed everything from her lower abdomen. Now, she’s preparing herself for chemotherapy treatments.
Balti stated, “Things are going great for me, I truly promise. My expectations are incredibly high for every aspect. Please don’t fret about my well-being, and you’ll find me in excellent health not too long from now.
This isn’t the first time that Balti has publicly opened up about her health.
In December 2022, it was revealed that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy following the discovery that she carried the BRCA1 gene. This genetic trait increased her risk of developing breast cancer by 50% and ovarian cancer by 30%, throughout her lifetime.
In an interview with Vogue in March, she expressed that the most challenging aspect of this entire ordeal has been the fear. The fear of receiving a diagnosis, the uncertainty, the apprehension about taking time off work, and the anxiety over how her physical appearance might change.
Balti shared that the encouragement she received from other women who chose to get a check-up following her health story was what kept her determined to remain transparent about her personal health experiences.
Whenever I share my experiences in public discussions, people often respond by telling me they’ve had a mammogram or had their genes tested, she clarified. This shows me that discussing such personal matters can truly have an impact on others.
