On a recent cruise with their sons Griffin (age 2) and August (age 13 months), the married TikTok creators Matt & Abby posted that they had left the boys sleeping in their cabin while they went out for dinner, stating they kept an eye on them through FaceTime.
In a now-expired Instagram story, Abby wrote that we stayed with them for five consecutive nights. As the days passed, it became clear that they weren’t having a good time, which in turn meant neither were we.
They shared that the married pair, who tied the knot back in 2019 during their second college year, adjusted their meal times to occur post their kids’ bedtime. During dinner, they would video call the baby monitors instead.
The 25-year-old pointed out that baby monitors aren’t effective on ships unless you’re very close, around 10 feet away.
She was content with the choice they both made as a couple, expressing it through her message, “It turned out to be so much more favorable for all of us! :)”.
After posting the update, the co-hosts of the Unplanned Podcast quickly became targets for criticism that spread across the web.
In a video posted on September 15th, TikToker yourfinestpardon expressed concern that not enough people appreciate the gravity of true crime situations. He used a chilling example: imagine returning home from dinner only to find yourself unsure about your children’s well-being. In such an emergency, how long would it take you to reach them?
In response to her video, many commenters expressed similar anger. One person even said, “If this had happened on land, they’d undoubtedly be in prison for neglect at the moment.
One person stated, “I’m merely pointing out, in what other circumstances do they let their child be unattended,” and another TikToker commented, “AND TO PUBLICLY SHARE THAT THEY WERE UNATTENDED ON THE CRUISE.
TopMob News has reached out to Matt and Abby for comment, but has not heard back yet.
Previously, the podcast hosts have caused a stir by taking a contentious stance. For instance, earlier in the year, Matt and Abby announced their decision to forgo celebrating Father’s Day as it coincided with Matt’s birthday, causing them to perceive the festivities as repetitive.
In an episode from last May, Abby mentioned that Matt’s birthday falls on June 18th. This means that both his birthday and Father’s Day happened on the same day this past year. To be honest, I ended up blending the celebrations together.
Matt noted that having the joint celebrations was “kind of was a bummer.”
He went on to say, “By the way, did you know? We’ve decided not to observe Father’s Day in June this year. Instead, we’ll celebrate it three months after my birthday.
