In an interview with TopMob magazine this week, Wicks shared his reasons for participating, stating: “Two years ago, I lost my grandmother, which was the most devastating event in my life.
Before she passed away, I couldn’t manage to make her feel proud of me. However, embracing novel experiences remains significant to me, as if she’s looking down and will be proud of the paths I choose.
Wicks stated: “Growing up, she was familiar with figures like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and she often watched their performances. It’s hard for her to believe, even a million times over, that I am the one doing this and standing here.
She likely would have found great amusement in this, as her humor was simply extraordinary. Without a doubt, she would have joined me in hearty laughter. Moreover, she would have been my most ardent supporter.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be partnered with the talented dancer Jowita Przystał for this season, a fact that became clear during last week’s exciting premiere event.
Initially, when it was revealed that he would be part of the series, Wicks expressed: “Performing dance live on national TV every Saturday? That’s absolutely terrifying. But for those who know me, they understand I thrive on challenges and enjoy venturing into new experiences. So, I am truly excited to dive in headfirst.
