Fan-Favorite Harry Potter Star Offers to Play Dumbledore in TV Reboot

As a die-hard Harry Potter fan who has grown up with these magical tales since their very first publication, I can’t help but feel a whirlwind of emotions upon hearing the news about the upcoming reboot. The idea of stepping into the Wizarding World once more, albeit through a new cast, is both exciting and bittersweet.

The magical realm is gearing up for a fresh chapter, as a revival of the Harry Potter series is under development for HBO. This upcoming live-action television show, scheduled to debut in 2026, will introduce a new group of actors to portray the famous characters. However, there has been speculation about whether the original cast and crew from the Harry Potter films will rejoin the project, and it appears that Sirius Black’s actor, Gary Oldman, is weighing in on these theories. Although Oldman told IndieWire that he hasn’t received any offers to return for the new Harry Potter television series, he hinted at a potential role he could take on within the revamped production.

“I love, Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil,” Oldman remarked, before adding, “I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people. Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”

What Will the Harry Potter Reboot Be About?

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled about the prospect of a full Harry Potter television series, which aims to encompass J.K. Rowling’s entire book saga. Previous hints suggest this series could run for an entire decade! To ensure the show stays true to her vision, the author herself will be involved in some way. It’s exciting to know that the essence of her original material will remain intact.

Previously, Casey Bloys of HBO explained their approach to finding a showrunner for an upcoming project has been rather secretive. “We haven’t been actively approaching agencies,” he said. Instead, they’ve been considering internal candidates quietly. However, now that the news is public, they will collaborate with The Blair Partnership and begin reaching out to potential candidates in the entertainment industry.

Will Daniel Radcliffe Appear in the Harry Potter Reboot?

Last year, as Daniel Radcliffe shared with ComicBook, he feels unlikely – perhaps even inappropriate – to be part of the HBO revival.

It seems they are planning a fresh beginning, and each new creator will likely want to put their unique touch on it without worrying about how to incorporate old Harry (Radcliffe) into the story. Consequently, Radcliffe has no intention of seeking such opportunities. However, he wishes them great success and is thrilled about the franchise’s evolution. He believes that the legacy doesn’t require him to be physically present for it to pass on.

As mentioned above, the Harry Potter television reboot is set to premiere on HBO in 2026.
