As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia hearing about EA’s next Battlefield title returning to its modern-day roots. The memories of epic battles fought across the urban landscapes of Battlefield 3 and 4 are still fresh in my mind, and I eagerly await the next installment.
It has been confirmed that the upcoming “Battlefield” game will return to a modern-day setting similar to that of “Battlefield 3” and “4”, which longtime fans will recall fondly. Additionally, more details about this title have been disclosed. Positioned as a return to form for the series, it’s no surprise that the next “Battlefield” game will also revert to some fundamental principles in its multiplayer aspect.
Even though Battlefield 2042 introduced 128-player maps on current-generation consoles and PC initially, this change didn’t sit well with players. Consequently, developer DICE eventually reverted to 64-player battles. In the upcoming series installment, however, they will start off with 64-player battles right away, as confirmed by Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn and Group General Manager for EA’s Studios Organization, during an interview with IGN.
As maps reach a specific level of detail, they transform into something unique. It’s like stepping into a fresh playground, and I believe the design should reflect this change. Consequently, we are crafting an experience that resembles past Battlefield games more closely. What I look forward to is sharing some of these well-structured, densely populated, and visually appealing play areas with you. Some of them are truly impressive, and I can’t wait for you to explore them.
In addition, Specialists were one of the novelties introduced in Battlefield 2042 that received mixed reviews from players. However, they won’t appear in the upcoming game within the shooter series, as Zampella has confirmed a return to character classes, which are fundamental to the franchise’s gameplay identity.
He mentioned he wasn’t present in the year 2042, explaining that he isn’t sure about the reasons behind it, but it seemed as though the team was experimenting with something different. It deserves recognition for trying new things. Not everyone was fond of it, but taking risks is important. Unfortunately, it didn’t succeed and won’t be returning. As for Battlefield, they are returning to their core focus on classes.
As a diehard Battlefield fan, I’ve heard whispers that the upcoming installment of this epic series might drop in October 2025! Yet, EA remains tight-lipped about the game and its official release strategy. Interestingly, Zampella hinted at the possibility of this game gracing Nintendo’s unannounced next-gen console.
