The Last of Us Season 2 Release Window Gets a Major Update

As a seasoned gamer and ardent fan of The Last of Us saga, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming second season. Having survived countless hours of gaming, the emotional rollercoaster that is Joel and Ellie’s story has left an indelible mark on my heart.

Enthusiasts of “The Last of Us” should mark their calendars for 2025, as that’s when they can expect to rejoin Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey). The first season of the HBO Original series ended in March 2023, leaving viewers on edge about the continuation of their story. In the finale, Joel managed to save Ellie’s life by sacrificing something else, but he also killed many people and deceived Ellie about it. The second season of “The Last of Us” can’t come fast enough, and luckily for fans, it might not be too far off – according to the programming head at HBO/Max, we may not have to wait much longer.

In a chat at an Emmy bash, Casey Bloys, HBO and Max Content’s Chairman and CEO, hinted at the potential release date for The Last of Us. When queried about both White Lotus and The Last of Us premiere dates, Bloys suggested that they would likely air during the first half of 2025, implying that Season 2 of The Last of Us could be released before May’s end, with possibly six episodes available by then to qualify for Emmy nominations.

Will The Last of Us Season 1 get any Emmy nominations in 2025?

If The Last of Us doesn’t appear in 2024, it wasn’t eligible for consideration during the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards held this weekend. But if a new season of The Last of Us premieres early in 2025, it would become contender for nominations alongside House of the Dragon Season 2. This potentially strengthens HBO’s chances in future Emmys, especially after their surprise win for Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy with Hacks, beating out heavy favorite The Bear.

Casey Bloys hinted at some exciting developments for the next season of The Last of Us, expressing his belief that everyone will be thrilled with the creative direction co-creator Craig Mazin is taking.
