As a long-time X-Men fan, this upcoming “Raid on Graymalkin” crossover event has me buzzing with excitement! The X-Verse has always been my go-to for complex narratives, dynamic characters, and heart-pounding action scenes, and this storyline promises all of that and more.
Kicking off the year’s end, the initial official crossover event for the X-Men: From the Ashes era will take place. The X-Men franchise has been rejuvenated through a new publishing plan, with two key series leading the charge: X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. Cyclops has amassed his troops and seized control of an abandoned Sentinel facility in Alaska, whereas Rogue and her selected X-clan have established a new base in Louisiana. Although they both head teams with the letter “X” in their name, their methods for fulfilling Professor X’s vision are strikingly dissimilar. The contrast between these divergent ideologies will be the focus of an imminent X-Men storyline.
The action-packed crossover event titled “Raid on Graymalkin” unfolds across four issues, intertwining Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman’s “X-Men” series with Gail Simone and David Marquez’s “Uncanny X-Men.” This thrilling storyline commences in December and centers around a tense confrontation at Graymalkin Prison, a facility that was once the Xavier Institute and now houses the imprisoned Charles Xavier. Given Dr. Corina Ellis’ hints about a mysterious “Prisoner X” in the first issue of “Uncanny X-Men,” it seems plausible that Professor X is this secret inmate. Marvel has been tantalizing readers with the idea that Dr. Ellis may possess a weapon capable of neutralizing the X-Men, and there are doubts about whether Professor X is still worthy of rescue after his questionable actions during the Fall of X incident.
Mackay expressed his enthusiasm about being involved in the debut of the X-titles series, but now things are ramping up – we’re diving into our first crossover! The “Raid on Graymalkin” is going to test the limits of X-Men teams from Alaska and Louisiana, and it lays the groundwork for what’s to come. It’s been a fantastic experience collaborating with a renowned creator like Gail in bringing this story to life!
In her own words, Simone expressed that working in the X-World has been one of the most enjoyable and fulfilling aspects of her professional journey. She praised the exceptional characters, art team, editors, and fellow creators, singling out Jed Mackay as a creative powerhouse. Their constant exchange of ideas, almost daily since they began shaping the X-Verse together, has been instrumental in their collaboration. She emphasized that their mutual admiration for each other’s work significantly contributes to the project’s success.
Simone expressed her hope that this could be the start of more brief collaborations. “We enjoy creating something meaningful, with an energetic, swift tempo, and lasting impact,” she said. “Reading X-Men or Uncanny X-Men will still give you the story, but if you read both, you’ll get a broader, more enriched perspective. We extend our warm welcome to new readers and those who have been with us for a long time!
Below, you’ll find the cover pages and solicitations for issues #8-9 of ‘X-Men’ and issues #7-8 of ‘Uncanny X-Men’, which collectively make up the four parts of “Raid on Graymalkin”. Enjoy!
