David Harbour Teases How His Creature Commandos Character Could Translate to Live-Action (Exclusive)

As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the rise of some truly exceptional characters in popular media, I can confidently say that the upcoming series, Creature Commandos, is shaping up to be another masterpiece in the making. With an all-star cast led by the inimitable David Harbour, this Max-exclusive animated series promises a unique blend of action, humor, and heart that will undoubtedly resonate with audiences.

We’re nearly at the point where we’ll see the debut of “Creature Commandos”, the first production in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. This Max-exclusive animated series boasts a stellar ensemble of voice actors, with David Harbour from “Stranger Things” and Thunderbolts* playing Victor Frankenstein. Before the premiere of “Creature Commandos”, Harbour has already hinted at the character’s future within the DCU, expressing anticipation for the potential live-action appearances by the cast. During an interview with ComicBook about his role as BoxLunch’s Giving Ambassador, Harbour briefly discussed the prospect of “Creature Commandos” in a live-action setting.

Harbour clarified that he’s unsure if he’s expecting a call regarding the project. He’s not glued to his phone, but there’s no specific update yet. However, he feels confident that it might be related to Peacemaker since Grillo seems to have moved into that project. They plan to discuss it at New York Comic Con, and it’s something very special and hilarious. The trailer is already out, featuring characters like Dr. Phosphorus and the Bride. He hopes they would want to bring these characters to life in a live-action format, but we’ll have to wait and see. All of this is just speculation coming from the creative mind of James Gunn.

Harbour expressed his curiosity about how Frankenstein would be portrayed, whether practically or digitally. However, he seemed less than enthusiastic about the possibility. If they chose to go the digital route, as they did with Taika Waititi’s Korg in Thor: Ragnarok, he felt it was quite common nowadays. He lamented that practical effects, which he appreciates, seem to be losing ground.

What Is Creature Commandos About?

The series “Creature Commandos” follows a covert squad of imprisoned monstrous beings who are called upon to execute perilous tasks that are considered far too risky for human personnel. In situations where all other options have been exhausted, they serve as the least desirable yet potentially necessary choice.

This show, titled “Creature Commandos,” features Steve Agee playing Economos, Maria Bakalova in the role of Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra portraying Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo acting as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn enacting both GI Robot and Weasel, David Harbour taking on the character of Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis assuming the role of Amanda Waller. James Gunn is the series’ writer and executive producer. It’s based on DC characters and produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation; Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register are also executive producers, while Rick Morales serves as a supervising producer for the show.

Creature Commandos will premiere exclusively on Max on Thursday, December 5th.
