As a long-time observer of the Dancing With The Stars family, I must say that the recent events surrounding Artem Chigvintsev have left me stunned and saddened. Having seen his journey from competing on the show to becoming a pro dancer, it’s heartbreaking to see someone I once admired facing such challenging times.

Despite the former contestant of “Dancing With the Stars” maintaining silence about his divorce from Nikki Garcia, his lawyer Ilona Antonyan has shared some details regarding his planned response to her filing, made two weeks following his arrest for alleged domestic violence.
In response to queries, lawyer for Mr. Chigvintsev has chosen not to discuss any ongoing legal matters at present. He and Garcia are instead concentrating on joint parenting and collaborating for the wellbeing of their 4-year-old son Matteo.
Additionally, Antonyan provided details about the ongoing divorce process between the couple, specifically mentioning the 42-year-old’s latest reaction to Garcia’s petition filed on September 11th.
In Antonyan’s explanation, it was clarified that Mr. Chigvintsev retains the ability to claim alimony and attorney fees in the divorce proceedings. If these boxes are not checked in the counterclaim, the right to ask for such compensation could be waived. At present, there is no active motion seeking spousal support or fees, often referred to as a Request for Order.
Antonyan mentioned that Chigvintsev and Garcia plan to sort out any remaining disputes through a compromise that both parties find agreeable.
TopMob News has reached out to Garcia for comment but has not heard back.
Five days ago, Chigvintsev’s attorney has issued a statement following the ex-dancer’s recent response to Garcia’s separation petition. Previously, Chigvintsev filed documents of his own, signifying an end to their two-year marriage that they had built together.
In Chigvintsev’s court documents, he stated that the couple separated on August 29 – the day of his arrest – and mentioned “irreconcilable differences” as the cause for their breakup. However, while both parties agreed on the reason and date of separation, they held contrasting views regarding child custody and financial matters.
Instead of Garcia asking for sole legal and physical custody of Matteo, as well as the termination of spousal support for both parties in her petition, and Chigvintsev countering with a request for shared custody, spousal support, and his attorney fees, it could be rephrased like this:

In an unexpected turn of events, I found myself in a challenging situation earlier today. At around 10 a.m. on August 29th, I was taken into custody by the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, as confirmed by Henry Wofford, their Public Information Officer, to TopMob News.
The court officially freed the dance professional on August 29 at 2:18 PM, as Wofford informed TopMob News. At this time, a court hearing date remains undetermined.
In an interview with NBC News, Wofford confirmed that Chigvintsev was taken into custody in Yountville, California. However, due to a request for privacy from the alleged victim, neither the exact location nor personal details such as name, gender, age, or relationship to Chigvintsev were disclosed. Despite this, Wofford provided insights about the arrest.
According to an audio clip released by TMZ on August 30th, Chigvintsev initially called 911 asking for medical assistance following an argument where shoes were supposedly thrown at him. However, the call was later reported that he no longer required medical attention. Despite this, Wofford stated that authorities still conducted a welfare check. He explained to Page Six that even if someone says “you don’t need to come after all,” for potential domestic violence cases, they will continue with the welfare check as they do not just halt their actions.
By August 30th, Chigvintsev remains silent on the matter of his arrest or the 911 call. Our team at TopMob News has attempted to get a statement from his representative, but we have not received any response as of now.
Chigvintsev was arrested just under three weeks before the start of Dancing With the Stars season 33. Interestingly, the Mirrorball trophy winner, who has been on the competition series for 12 seasons, wasn’t scheduled to be part of this year’s cast, according to Page Six and Variety. So far, ABC has not responded to our request for comment from TopMob News.
A representative for Nikki Garcia, who danced together with Artem Chigvintsev during season 25 of “Dancing With the Stars” in 2017, spoke up about his arrest on August 30th. They requested privacy for Nikki and her family at this time, describing the matter as private.
Following Chigvintsev’s arrest, Cheryl Burke – a professional dancer who retired from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in 2022 after 26 years on the show and was once a close associate of his – voiced her feelings about the incident. On her podcast ‘Sex, Lies and Spray Tans’, she expressed being “completely shocked” by the news. She added that it was particularly difficult for her because he was like family to her, and all she could say was that she hoped everyone involved was okay. Burke also shared resources on her podcast’s TikTok account, urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help.
