Battlefield Boss Talks Possibility of New Game Releasing on Nintendo Switch 2

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the prospect of Battlefield gracing the Nintendo Switch 2 is as intriguing as a cat chasing its tail! The idea of such a large-scale multiplayer game like Battlefield on a portable device is both exciting and perplexing.

Vince Zampella, who oversees everything related to Battlefield at EA, has hinted at the potential launch of the next game in the series for the Nintendo Switch 2. After keeping quiet for quite some time, Zampella and his team at EA have finally provided some insights into the upcoming installment of the Battlefield franchise this week. One significant revelation is that the new Battlefield game will take place in a modern era, offering 64-player multiplayer instead of the 128-player matches previously seen in Battlefield 2042. Although there are still many unanswered questions about the project, it appears that a version for Switch 2 could also be a possibility.

In an interview with IGN, Zampella praised Nintendo as a valuable partner for EA and hinted at the possibility of Battlefield being released on the potential future console, the Switch 2. Zampella clarified that the Switch 2 is not currently in existence as Nintendo has yet to reveal its next generation hardware. However, he didn’t dismiss the idea of the Switch 2 serving as a platform for their games once it is officially unveiled.

Given that the Switch 2 hasn’t been revealed yet and doesn’t exist, I can’t provide any comments about it. However, I can confidently say that Nintendo, along with Microsoft and Sony, are fantastic partners for us at EA and Respawn. We don’t have any new information to share at the moment, but in an ideal world, we would definitely appreciate continued partnerships with them. They’ve been wonderful to work with, and I admire the Switch.

Perhaps the biggest thing against the next Battlefield game coming to Switch 2 is that the series has no history whatsoever on Nintendo platforms. Since the launch of Battlefield 1942 in 2002, every ensuing Battlefield game has only ever come to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. As a result, seeing the franchise land on Switch 2 would be a major surprise, although the likely success that the hardware will have could be enough for EA to consider supporting the platform.

Currently, specifics about the upcoming Battlefield game and the Nintendo Switch 2 are scarce. Electronic Arts (EA) has yet to officially name their next Battlefield project, though we may learn more in 2025. Regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, whispers persist that a hardware unveiling could occur this month, while its release is predicted for the following year.
