As a cinephile with an affinity for World War II dramas and a penchant for gritty British series, I must say that the return of Steven Knight’s SAS Rogue Heroes is like manna from heaven! The images released have only whet my appetite for more of this riveting tale.
The much-anticipated second installment of Steven Knight’s World War II drama “SAS Rogue Heroes” is coming up on BBC One shortly, and enthusiasts have been treated to a sneak peek of what’s in store for the upcoming season, courtesy of recently unveiled captivating first-look photos.
Multiple photos have been made public – some featuring individuals and others groups – depicting the regiment preparing for their upcoming fight, this time on European soil itself.
As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to point out that the captivating cast of this film includes Jack O’Connell as Paddy Mayne, Connor Swindells portraying David Stirling, Sofia Boutella brilliantly playing Eve Mansour, and Dominic West bringing Dudley Clarke to life on screen.
In addition, we get a peek at some fresh faces joining us for season 2, such as Jack Barton from Heartstopper, portraying SAS member John Tonkin (depicted below).
Once more, we find ourselves immersed in the narrative similar to Ben Macintyre’s renowned book, as we delve into season 2 set in the spring of 1943. Here, Paddy Mayne assumes command of the SAS following David Stirling’s capture.
The brief summary hints at this scenario: “They discover that Headquarters Questionable (GHQ) has raised questions about the regiment’s future. Additionally, the formation of another unit and the arrival of fresh personnel add to the challenges the soldiers are already facing.
“Can they prove that the SAS remain essential to the war, wherever it may lead them?”
Joining the stellar cast returning from before are Theo Barklem-Biggs as Reg Seekings, Corin Silva as Jim Almonds, Jacob Ifan portraying Pat Riley, Jacob McCarthy in the role of Johnny Cooper, Stuart Campbell playing Bill Fraser, and Bobby Schofield taking on Dave Kershaw.
Additionally, Gwilym Lee (from The Great), Con O’Neill (Happy Valley), Mark Rowley (The Last Kingdom), Jack Barton (Heartstopper), Paolo De Vita (Anonymous), Anna Manuelli (Blocco 181), Edward Bennett (Industry) and Matteo Franco have joined our cast.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m eagerly awaiting news about the release date of the second run, and while the exact timeline hasn’t been disclosed yet, the BBC has hinted that it’s coming “soon.” Keeping my fingers crossed for an official announcement to drop in the near future.
