Project T, Dead by Daylight’s PvE Co-op Shooter Spinoff, Has Been Cancelled

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment upon hearing the news about Project T‘s cancellation. It seemed like an exciting prospect, a new multiplayer co-op shooter spinoff set in the Dead by Daylight universe, something that would have added a fresh perspective to the franchise.

As a devoted fan, I was thrilled when Dead by Daylight ventured into the realm of single-player gaming with The Casting of Frank Stone, developed by Supermassive. However, it appears that their plans for another multiplayer experience may have been cut short unexpectedly.

Last May, developer Behaviour Interactive revealed that they had been working with Midwinter Entertainment (a studio they had acquired earlier) on a PvE co-op shooter spinoff within the Dead by Daylight universe. They later unveiled this game as Project T and started an early access playtest for select participants.

Shortly after the initial announcement, it’s been revealed that the project will no longer proceed due to valuable feedback gathered during playtesting sessions and a comprehensive evaluation of potential risks from both business and product aspects within their organization.

As a game developer, when I dreamt up “Project T,” it was crucial for us to bring gamers into the loop right from the start, which sparked the birth of our Insiders Program. This strategy has been invaluable, giving us early feedback on the heart and soul of our project – design and gameplay, aspects that usually don’t surface until much later in a game’s development. After our playtest in July, we dived deep into an extensive risk assessment, considering both product and commercial aspects. Despite receiving gratitude from many players for their gaming experience, the end result of our analysis was disappointing.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that Project T has been cancelled. We want to thank you for your support throughout this journey.”
