As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of Marvel Comics, I must say, this news about Deadpool‘s demise leaves me feeling like I just got a Game Over screen in the middle of my favorite game. It’s a punch to the gut, especially considering the timing with his movie still dominating the box office.
In an unexpected turn of events, Marvel has decided to end the life of Deadpool, the wise-cracking antihero who’s currently riding high on the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. Before the movie hit theaters, Marvel began a new volume of Deadpool, introducing a powerful adversary named Death Grip. Throughout his mercenary career, Deadpool has relied heavily on his healing factor, similar to Wolverine, which helped him escape numerous life-threatening situations. However, when this healing factor is neutralized, Deadpool becomes vulnerable and susceptible to being killed. Some might question whether Marvel would kill off Deadpool while the movie was still running in theaters, but it seems that answer is a resounding YES!

Issue #6 of Deadpool features the creative team including Cody Ziglar, Rog? Ant?nio, Guru-eFX, and VC’s Joe Sabino. After his recent battle with Death Grip, Deadpool is wheelchair-bound due to his inability to regenerate a new right limb. He maintains his optimistic spirit by dispatching his human daughter Ellie and symbiote-daughter Princess on missions. Ellie receives her own Deadpool suit, and alongside Princess they tackle a Russian arms dealer. With Taskmaster supervising Ellie and Princess, Deadpool is left at home, only to be visited by Death Grip himself.
In the latest edition of Deadpool, Wade Wilson dismembered Death Grip, preventing him from practicing his trademark dark magic. Alongside Taskmaster, Ellie, and Princess, they successfully detonated Death Grip’s hideout, leading many to believe he was eliminated. Yet, it appears that Death Grip may still be alive.
How Marvel kills Deadpool, explained
Earlier, Death Grip had incorporated the Muramasa Blade, a mystical weapon capable of suppressing healing abilities. With this weapon, Death Grip severely wounded Deadpool. However, Deadpool expects his regenerative powers to reactivate at some stage following Death Grip’s recent assault, but we don’t observe that occurrence in what follows.
In a surprising turn of events, Deadpool is suddenly ambushed by Death Grip, who has miraculously regrown both his hands. The story doesn’t reveal how Death Grip managed to survive the explosion or reattach his hands, but his skills in evading death are evident. In their first encounter, Death Grip manages to chop off Deadpool’s left arm, leaving him with only one leg standing.
In his dying moments, Deadpool reflects on his family and the contentment he’d discovered after years of seeking it. This has been a recurring theme during Cody Ziglar and Rog António’s tenure on Deadpool. Life seemed to be falling into place, only for this unfortunate event to occur. For now, Ellie takes the reins of Deadpool, with Taskmaster and Princess standing by her side. Time will tell how long Deadpool remains deceased, and we’ll eagerly await Marvel’s imaginative approach to resurrect him once more.
