Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping air date confirmed after Top Gear shelved

As a seasoned TV critic with over three decades of viewing under my belt, I must say that the upcoming show, Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping, has piqued my interest. Having grown up on Top Gear, witnessing the camaraderie between Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris, and Freddie Flintoff was a delight. The news of their latest venture comes as a breath of fresh air, especially after the unfortunate events that transpired last year.

This month, former hosts Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris will make a comeback on our TV screens with their very own automobile-themed program.

The confirmation has come that the fresh series titled “Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping” is set to debut on both BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday, 29th September, starting at 8 pm.

Since it was announced that Top Gear won’t be back “for some time” following Freddie Flintoff’s severe car accident at the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey in December 2022, this is the first project they (Harris and McGuinness) have collaborated on for television.

Fans of Top Gear may be saddened by the departure of the trio from their television screens, but Paddy and Chris: On a European Road Trip offers an exciting new adventure as they explore hidden gems across Europe, revealing insights into how to truly live life to its fullest.

A fresh trailer for the upcoming series dropped only a week ago, offering glimpses of the delightful mayhem and laughter that awaits as the duo travels to destinations like Sweden, Greece, and Switzerland.

In the overview for this show, we find that Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris embark on a journey to uncover the secrets behind aging gracefully. They aim to learn from the Europeans who have mastered this art of growing older successfully.

Instead of its previous focus on car testing and racing as seen in Top Gear, the new show will take a significant turn by exploring topics beyond that scope, such as health, nutrition, surfing, sailing, and many other diverse subjects.

News of the new series was first announced back in May this year.

McGuinness and Harris reappear on our television sets, following in the footsteps of Freddie Flintoff who recently returned to TV with a new season of Field of Dreams.

In the initial episode, the ex-cricketer openly discussed his involvement in the Top Gear crash, admitting: “I assumed I could quickly move past it, I wished to dismiss it with ‘I’m fine,’ but it’s been more challenging than anticipated.

“As much as I wanted to go out and do things, I’ve just not been able to.”

Paddy and Chris: Road Tripping will air on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 29th September at 8pm.
