As a lifelong Emmerdale viewer and someone who has seen more than their fair share of soap opera twists, I must admit that Caleb Miligan’s secret is the most intriguing plot development in recent memory. The way he manipulated Helen Fox’s last moments for his own gain, all while pretending to be the grieving husband, is a masterclass in deceit.
In tonight’s Emmerdale (18th September 2024), William Ash’s character, Caleb Miligan, hid a questionable truth from his spouse, Ruby (Beth Cordingly), as he had been involved in some shady business.
In a turn of events, when Helen Fox (Sharon Maughan), Ruby’s estranged mother, attempted to reach out, Caleb stepped in and made a visit to her instead. During their meeting, she confided that she was terminally ill, expressed remorse for her past harshness towards Ruby, and wished to reconcile.
Caleb insisted that if Helen wanted to see Ruby that badly, she could pay him £100k first!
The following day, Ruby felt disheartened as her son Nicky (Lewis Cope) didn’t reach out for their birthday; however, Caleb succeeded in lifting Ruby’s spirits.
Later on, Dean Andrews (Taylor) requested an immediate loan from Caleb, and in a state of dire need to settle with his extortionist, he agreed to pledge his portion of the haulage company as security.
As Helen’s funds were en route, Caleb consented to the plan, simultaneously receiving a call on his mobile device. Simultaneously, Ruby made her way to the hospital following a call from Helen’s nurse.
Later on, the nurse disclosed that Helen had sadly passed away only twenty minutes prior, leaving Ruby dazed. She entered the room where Helen’s lifeless body was, pondering out loud about what her mother might have wished to tell her and why it took so long for her to reach out.
Close by, Caleb overheard, understanding that his actions were the cause behind Ruby not receiving a resolution with Helen.
Previously in the village, Caleb shared with Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) that their agreement failed, and then headed back home. There, he was spotted engrossed in his phone at the exact moment when Will got a notification from their unknown harasser.
Upon Ruby’s arrival, she shared with her husband that her mother had passed away, causing Caleb to pretend surprise. As Ruby expressed her desire for an apology from Helen and felt unloved by her mother, the deceptive Caleb backed her up without disclosing that Helen actually harbored remorse.
However, while he kept his plans hidden, a message appeared on Caleb’s phone stating that Helen had moved £100,000 into his account prior to her passing. Now, will Caleb choose to reveal this secret to Ruby?
