Transformers Producer Confirms Next Live-Action Movie Is the Crossover Fans Have Been Waiting For

As a lifelong fan of both Transformers and G.I. Joe, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming crossover movie! Growing up with these iconic franchises, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to see Optimus Prime team up with Duke or Bumblebee share a battlefield with Snake Eyes. The fact that we’re getting closer to seeing this dream come true is just mind-blowing!

As a thrilled gamer, I can’t help but feel my pulse racing at the prospect of the impending collision between two of my favorite universes – Transformers and G.I. Joe! The climactic scene in this year’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” subtly hinted at a connection, with our hero, Noah (Anthony Ramos), being approached by the enigmatic G.I. Joe organization.

In an interview with Collider, Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that the upcoming crossover film featuring G.I. Joe is set to be the next live-action movie derived from the Transformers universe.

The producer mentioned that if things go well, they plan to make a follow-up to this project. This sequel will be an animated version, separate from any live-action productions. Additionally, a future live-action movie may include a crossover. With the new understanding of these robots’ emotional capacities, they aim to develop a storyline that fully explores these emotions. To do this, they are considering focusing more on the robot’s perspectives in the live-action sequel as it offers a unique insight into their inner worlds. This is just one idea at this stage of development, and nothing has been finalized yet.

Di Bonaventura clarified the significant distinction between the past Transformers movies and this forthcoming cross-over, apart from the inclusion of the Joes. In Transformers One, the Autobots and Decepticons have their own autonomy, distinct from the human characters who have been showcased in the live-action series. The franchise intends to maintain that concept throughout the crossover.

He clarified that instead of the characters simply responding to human actions or the human narrative, their motivations need to be integrated into the story. This makes the task more complex due to the large number of characters in franchise movies, which can make it difficult to create strong individual personalities. His solution is to keep the cast smaller and focus on developing each character thoroughly. At this stage, they are working on establishing a larger framework that includes both Joes and Transformers, along with regular humans. The challenge lies in finding the right balance between these elements, deciding how much of each to include in the final story.

Transformers One is now playing in theaters.
