Final Fantasy 16 Peaks at Over 22,000 Concurrent Steam Players Upon PC Release

As a seasoned RPG enthusiast who has traversed countless fantasy worlds and battled numerous beasts, I must admit that the launch of Final Fantasy 16 for PC hasn’t quite met the thunderous reception I had hoped for. Don’t get me wrong, the numbers aren’t dismal by any means; it’s just that I’ve seen more adventurers gather in other realms, like Tales of Arise or Persona 5 Royal.

After more than a year of being a PS5 exclusive, Final Fantasy 16 has finally made its debut on PC. However, unlike what Square Enix might have anticipated, the action game didn’t immediately take off with a swift start.

According to SteamDB, the game reached a maximum of more than 22,000 simultaneous players on Steam when it debuted on PC. This isn’t a bad figure at all – in fact, it surpasses the peak concurrent players for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which was around 13,000 when it made its own Steam appearance (although that was several months following its initial release on the Epic Games Store).

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that various other JRPGs on Steam have attracted significantly more players than Final Fantasy 16. For instance, Tales of Arise boasted a peak concurrent player count of 60,274, while Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth had 46,161 players at its peak. Similarly, Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal saw 45,002 and 35,474 concurrent players respectively. Even Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin managed to garner 34,995 concurrent players.

Final Fantasy 16 can be played on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. Explore our review of the initial PS5 version by following this link. There have been rumors that the game is also planned for Xbox Series X/S, a possibility that its developers have suggested as well.
