As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of relief and anticipation at Square Enix‘s decision to adopt a multiplatform strategy for its future releases. For far too long, I’ve found myself on the wrong side of console wars, missing out on some truly epic Final Fantasy adventures due to Sony’s exclusive grip.
Over the past few years, Square Enix has been rather inconsistent when it comes to choosing which platforms to launch their games on. Particularly noteworthy is their decision to make major titles like Final Fantasy 16, the Remake of Final Fantasy 7, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth exclusive to PlayStation. However, these choices appear to have fallen short financially, leading Square Enix to consider a shift in strategy.
At a more recent financial gathering, which was initially held in May, Square Enix reaffirmed that both “Final Fantasy 16” and “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” underperformed commercially. Now, they have officially announced their shift towards a multi-platform strategy, even extending this approach to their classic games.
The company is planning to adopt a strategy that encompasses multiple platforms. For high-definition games specifically, they aim to establish a worldwide setting that provides more users access to our popular series and top-tier game releases, even ones from our previous collections.
It appears that the company might launch its primary games on multiple platforms initially, not just PlayStation, and they may even bring exclusive titles to other systems as well. For example, Final Fantasy 16, which was recently released on PC, is rumored to eventually arrive on Xbox Series X/S. Similarly, Xbox players are eagerly waiting for the chance to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel.
