As a fervent admirer of Jac Schaeffer’s brilliant storytelling and character development, I wholeheartedly share her optimism for more of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The intricate depth that Wanda reached in WandaVision was a masterclass in emotional storytelling, and it left me yearning for more.
Creator of WandaVision and Agatha All Along, Jac Schaeffer, expresses optimism about possibly seeing more of Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In the 2021 miniseries streaming on Disney Plus, the character plumbed unprecedented layers of complexity. This captivating series portrayed a situation where she trapped an entire town, driven to this extreme by relentless sorrow over her deceased lover, Vision, played by Paul Bettany.
Nevertheless, certain viewers believed that her storyline in the series didn’t receive adequate continuity when Wanda was portrayed as a straightforward, less complex antagonist in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Earlier on, Olsen mentioned in an interview with Vanity Fair that the writers for Multiverse of Madness hadn’t watched WandaVision, as it was still in production when filming began. This meant that she needed to portray her character differently in order to avoid making her performance too similar and repetitive.
Schaeffer expressed: “I have a deep affection for Wanda, as well as every character I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with – including Natasha from Black Widow and Carol Danvers from Captain Marvel, among others.
One condition when joining the MCU is that, for a while, you’ll be sharing characters and plotlines with others.
She added: “You accumulate your experience working with them, and then the storyline unfolds, which is one of the marvelous, unique aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many of my peers and associates were part of that production.
I’m deeply appreciative for the moments I’ve shared with Wanda, and I can only wish for more encounters like these to occur. Furthermore, I can’t help but hope for more of Lizzie Olsen in any capacity, as she truly shines in every role she plays.
Initially, there were concerns among fans that Olsen’s comments about Multiverse of Madness could indicate her departure from Marvel Studios. However, her latest statements seem to contradict this assumption.
During an interview about her latest Netflix movie (His Three Daughters, as reported by Collider), the actress made it clear that she is open to returning as Wanda, provided there’s a suitable opportunity. However, she reiterated her belief that Marvel has been struggling to find the right direction for the character following WandaVision.
For now, Wanda Maximoff stays sidelined, while Schaeffer joins forces with WandaVision costar Kathryn Hahn in the fresh spin-off series titled Agatha All Along, debuting on Disney Plus today.
